Yeah like that time in 1898 when America and William Randolph Hurst manufacutered animosity between the United States and Spain to start a war with them so that we could take the Phillipines. Or that time in 1903 when Teddy Roosevelt gave money to revolutionaries in Panama so that they could take over the country and then sell us the land needed for the Panama Canal. Or how the US lied about The Gulf of Tonkin to get us involved in Veitnam. Or the time we either killed or sent off all Native Americans to a reservation so that we could take there land. Yeah...we never start anything...ever. I know what you are trying to say, dude, and I agree with you. The United States used to have this ideal about always fighting for democracy. That was the ideal and I feel our prescence in Iraq is no longer needed. But really the US, throughout it's history has done some pretty crappy things. The fact that you disagree with the war is no reason to look at the country through rose colored glasses to a past that didn't exist. Sorry to be so harsh, but I just wanted it known that while the US is the to me one of the greatest nations on earth we should never whitewash the bad things we did. Only by remembering the bad parts of history can keep us from ******* up again. That is something We all need to learn.

Not quite so simple. Both the Mexican-American war and the Spanish-American war were trumped-up, land-grabbing ventures. Nothing more. We invented reasons to blame completely innocent events as war instigators, then "defended" overwhelmingly while the "attackers" pleaded for reason and sanity. Both wars made Vietnam look like the pinnacle of moral intervention. Vietnam, Korea, and Iraq were all clearly wars started by a superpower to further superpower interests.

Both WWI and WWII were the classic moral wars. Without a doubt, Germany in both wars and Japan in the second were evil. Regardless of whatever power grabs and manipulation we did, the Nazi and Japanese Empire were true evil.

The Civil War can be regarded as the epitome of the moral war, or a ruthless incursion of oppressive might, depending on which side you fought on. And the American-Indian wars were wars of genocide, exactly like the Nazi war against the Jews. Same tactic, same end goal, far more effective. Of course, the American-Indian wars are conveniently ignored in all the high school classrooms and history books.

I think the fundamental difference is that the average American is now much less tolerant of hundreds of thousands killed simply because they're brown or yellow or red - or allowing thousands of soldiers to die for no other reason than an elected politician told them to - then they were 50 years ago.

Ah you mean like WW!! when the USA Naval fleet was bombed. Is that what you mean? Read some history honey it doesn't hurt but increases your knowledge tremendously. The USA did not if I recall start the war with Iraq, it was started a long time back. It started when Iraq invaded it's neighbor. Iraq has since then been bombed over and over again. Also I believe we may point to 9/11 and see that al-quadia was in Iraq. Do some news archives research. When Iran rears its ugly head this same question is going to be asked.

You make me sick. To even suggest that this country started this war. They came knockin on our door. And if it wasnt for un-patriotic people in this country the war would be over already and with a big and exciting BOOM I might add.

If it wasnt for people that have nothing better to do than defend the rights of people that quite frankly dont deserve any rights what so ever.

..... An eye fro an eye.... A tooth for tooth....

Look I know there are people over there that had nothing to do with what happens but they are the same people that hate us until they need help.

As far as I am concerned Its your guys' fault. You are teh reason this country was preceived to be an easy target in the first place.

So take your sympathizing self and move to france.....pansy!

Do you remember when enemies were easy to point to. Terrorists started all of this. I guess we should have just sat back and let them continue to hit us over and over again.
