Having fought in that country, I can tell you that the Insurgents are well trained, and experts in urban guerilla warfare. They are easily on par with groups like Hezbollah, the Taliban, Tamil Tigers and the IRA. Because of this, even the best trained soldiers in the world (American Soldiers), are going to suffer casualties. However according to the Associated Press, and the US and Iraqi Governments, at least 400 Militia members have been killed or captured in Baghdad this month by US and Iraqi forces, and over 100 Sunni and Al Qaeda insurgents have been killed by American troops in Anbar province. This proves that even under the toughest circumstances, American forces will outfight and outkill our enemy, and since 60,0000 insurgents have been killed since the start of the war, it is obvious that we have done better then the Brits, Israelis or any other military in the world, under similar circumstances. I welcome your opinions on this subject.

Instead of using those advanced stealth bombers and drinking tea well I suppose the full extant of war is being relized.
They have to fight gurrilla warfare. Thats why. Still they are using advanced equipment. The thing is that if Iraq with untrained militia's can do this then imagine what Iran could do once their military is defeated. They could call out Hizbollah and other well trained organizations to fight. The U.S is attempting to crack down on insurgency so they need to fight like they fought in Vietnam accept that the the militia is not very well trained
as Viet Kong but they are learning from their enemy.
They are learning how to escape from those stealth bombs.
The sad thing is that the U.S cannot learn from them and the reason is that the U.S is far to reliant on its military technology
and in wars people win not machines because people are behind the intelligence. More terrorists are now surving the stealth attacks. If an untrained milita can do this remember that Iran could do the same. The Iranian army would be defeated in a few months. Compared to what it took to defeat the Iraqi army
the U.S would have to work much harder. Then afterwards it would be gurrilla warfare. The thing i that militia's of Iran would be better equiped and trained. It s true that milita's are being captured but they will keep coming. Its not like war in the 1940's when the military is defeated and a treaty is signed.War goes on until the last enem is defeated. That is the reality of war.

Ramadan. It is considered the most venerated, blessed and spiritually-beneficial month of the Islamic year. The nineth month of the year. Even Bush has said he compares it to the Tet offensive in VietNam which was January 30, 1968 - June 8, 1969, the beginning of the lunar New Year. A major, major series of battles. If you want to read it click the link. The Tet Offensive can be considered a military defeat for the Communist forces, as neither the Viet Cong nor the North Vietnamese army achieved their tactical goals. Furthermore, the operational cost of the offensive was dangerously high, with the Viet Cong essentially crippled by the huge losses inflicted by South Vietnamese and other Allied forces. Nevertheless, the Offensive is widely considered a turning point of the war in Vietnam, with the Viet Cong and N.Vietnamese Army winning an enormous psychological and propaganda victory. Not against our soldiers but our people at home. My opinion is about the same as yours and if the same thing happens again, here, we have lost this war also. Not because of our military ability but because of what happens here at home. No matter how it started.

Knowbody will dispute your assessment of the US military capabilities. The regular army and Marine Corps truly are outstanding, as are special ops. Reserves and national guard, not so much. Their training, dedication, and lack of equipment many times makes them less effective than the former. This is not to say they are not true patriots, the problem is not with them as it is with political leadership.

Prior to racheting up the Baghdad operation, GWB, Rumsfeld and Cheney made a rather widespread debacle of their intentions. They were going to get as much political mileage as they could, out of this new offensive, so they called in the media and announced to the world, their plans.

Lets take that same scenario back 62 years, to D-Day, 1944. Do you believe the outcome of that offensive would have been the same if Eisenhower, Montgomery, or even Churchill had called in the press to announce their intentions?

Today's politicians, just as in yesteryear, have no business running this war. The US employs over 700 individuals, with the rank of Brigidier General or above, and yet, we rely on a 73 year old, know it all geriatric, to run the show.

I am as conservative as the day is long. I am not a god damn bleeding heart liberal try ing to make a political statement. I see a huge hole in the intelligence level of this war effort, and if it's not corrected, GWB will lose what support he has left. More importantly, if we don't improve our intel, in the field, we will find ourselves with an outcome similar to 1975.

For all the people trying to give long thought out answers and have never been to Iraq, one word sums it up, Rahmadahn. It's a muslim holiday that lasts for weeks, intended to be a peacful holiday, but is used by terrorists as an excuse to kill for their religion and get a free pass to heaven.

Things are devolving rapidly, that's probably why Bush has sought the opinions of the military this week instead of trying to tell them what to think.

It will be interesting to see if he continues to throw oil onto troubled flames.
