It's been a while since I've lived on base and I'll always remember how cars would actually pull over when they would play the anthem.

At the end of the normal business day, retreat and then the Anthem is played. This can vary by day and by base as to what time each day this happens. Many bases also play Taps sometime during the evening, say around 10:00pm to signify "Quiet Hours".

the anthem is played every day to signal the end of the workday and the retiring of the flag. When cars pull over and the service personael get out of thfeir vicheals and stand at attention it is in honor and respect to the flag being lowered and flodded for the night. This is military protacol on all bases

Yes, the National Anthem is played at the end of the duty-day.

It's also played at the base theater before the start of the movies.

I was in the Air Force and know for a fact that it is still done on all bases. I took pride in stopping to acknowledge the flag that represents the country that I was and still am willing to die to protect. And those who think its stupid should remember that the flag represents the country that allows them the freedom of speech and religion. I served to protect even those who disagree with the government and the military because thats what its about, freedom. sorry for the rant but im very passionate about this country and what it stands for even if I wouldnt trust most politicians as far as I could throw them.

I know when I was in Korea in 1995, Osan airbase did not plat the National Anthem every day at 5pm. I think it was actually up to the discression of the base commander.
