Keep some low calorie snacks on hand to satisfy the munchies and make sure that you eat the three main meals every day. Take up a hobby or find something that can keep you busy to keep your mind off of food.

The best way to get it under control is to keep yourself busy/preoccupied. Pick up an extra hobby, tackle some chores you've been putting off, dive into some great books or magazines...stuff like that.

Another great tactic is to give in to your thoughts of food by planning your meals for the week and collect new recipes. But bottomline, don't deprive yourself of food if you're thinking about it all the time. Snack on small portions of food throughout the day, and you'll find that not only are you less hungry during meal times, but it actually revs up your metabolism, and you may actually lose a lot of weight this way. Try snacking on good stuff like fresh fruit, protein (peanut butter on whole wheat crackers, cheese with crackers or fruit etc), yogurt, smoothies, baked tortilla chips with bean dip, whole wheat pita pockets with tuna, trail mix, cereal, and dried fruits etc. Just remember to eat small portions, just enough to feel 'satisfied'.

HTH!

The worst thing you can do is starve yourself or deprive yourself of the food you crave. The best thing you can do is appease your appetite in some way- if you're craving ice cream, buy some frozen yogurt. Cut your portions in half. Do something physical after you eat so you don't feel guilty for eating. Eating is a necessary part of life, and it's silly to waste your time fretting over it. We all fall prey to it, but if you keep yourself down by depriving yourself of food, you'll just want it more. Buy that big pretzel at the mall and savor every bite. Then jog for 15 minutes and rid yourself of the guilt.

Think about more important things, watch TV, get a hobby, etc. Stock your house up with healthy food so if you must eat, you'll eat something that's good for you.
