OK, for starters, know this: I am a Christian. Thus, you will be receiving this answer from that perspective. You are not alone in your depression. Many people feel sad, or depressed, for differing periods of time. For example, if you look in the Bible you'll see that David was a man of moodswings. If you flip through the Psalms and just read their headings, you will see sections of Psalms that are about praise and joy, and others about sadness and guilt. The fact is, humans are subject to moodswings. There can be periods where, by myself, I am sad, and have other feelings that just can't be described by words! However, I have Someone to turn to. Jesus Christ is my Savior, and He is alive to this day. He is God; who could be better to turn to for salvation and Joy? God is Love, who better to turn to for comfort? Take a look at some of the swings that David and perhaps other psalmists had in the Psalms:

Psalm 119:82 (NLT)
My eyes are straining to see your promises come true. When will you comfort me?

Psalm 143:7 (NIV)
Answer me quickly, O LORD;
my spirit fails.
Do not hide your face from me
or I will be like those who go down to the pit.

Psalm 5:2 (NIV)
Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God,for I pray to no one but you.

Psalm 17:1
O Lord, hear my plea for justice.Listen to my cry for help.Pay attention to my prayer, for it comes from honest lips.

Psalm 22:11
Do not stay so far from me,for trouble is near, and no one else can help me.
Psalm 39:12

Hear my prayer, O Lord!Listen to my cries for help!Don’t ignore my tears. For I am your guest—a traveler passing through,as my ancestors were before me.

Psalm 22:1
My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?Why are you so far away when I groan for help?

Psalm 30:10
Hear me, Lord, and have mercy on me.Help me, O Lord.”

Psalm 38:22
Come quickly to help me,O Lord my savior.

Psalm 40:13
Please, Lord, rescue me!Come quickly, Lord, and help me.

Psalm 71:12
O God, don’t stay away.My God, please hurry to help me.

Psalm 18:6
But in my distress I cried out to the Lord;yes, I prayed to my God for help.He heard me from his sanctuary;my cry to him reached his ears.

Psalm 30:2
O Lord my God, I cried to you for help, and you restored my health.

Psalm 34:5
Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy;no shadow of shame will darken their faces.

Psalm 34:17
The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help.He rescues them from all their troubles.

Psalm 71:21
You will restore me to even greater honorand comfort me once again.

Psalm 94:19
When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.

Psalm 119:76
Now let your unfailing love comfort me,just as you promised me, your servant.

Psalm 10:17
Lord, you know the hopes of the helpless.Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them.

Psalm 18:46
The Lord lives! Praise to my Rock!May the God of my salvation be exalted!

As you can see, the Lord is faithful, though we go through mood swings! Jeremy Camp wrote, "It's not about how we feel, it's about who God is!" Sometimes the worst enemy to us can be -- us. Our own mind. However, Jesus came to do away with our sins, allowing us let our old nature to pass away.

Colossians 1:21 (NIV)
Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior.

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!

We can put our trust in Christ Jesus, and no longer depend upon our faulty selves!

Acts 2:21
And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'

Romans 10:9
That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

I hope this helps you out; may God bless you and keep you!

Well, first I would check with a doctor to see if medication could get the depression under control. Then decide to be happy. It is a condition of the mind. You can worry and fret and upset yourself about everything or decide to just let it go. I have five wild kids, a husband who does very little to help out, obnoxious in-laws who live to close and my family who lives to far we have a house under 1000 sq ft, crappy cars and if I get something nice it soon gets ruined. I have plenty to upset me, but I just don't have time to deal with being depressed. So, we think of the good things. I have a house that I own, my kids are happy and healthy and act like boys. Just as they should. And if my cars don't run, I don't have to drag all the children out anywhere! All positives in my book. Volunteer work can be helpful also. Its easy to find someone who is worse off than you are and helping them may help you feel better.

You find out who you are, not what you do or what others think of you but what you think of yourself. Self awareness. Then whatever you don't like about yourself, accept that and then work to gradually improve that quality. Be inner directed. Know you are doing the right thing for you. Other people cannot make you happy. You make yourself happy and then you can be happy with others.

Putting your faith and trust in God, knowing he Will lead you into the direction he would have you go, With his guidance of course. Becoming a Christian, living the Christian life and loving and praising him. Teaching others of him and his glory. It is from there you will be touched and lifted up to move on ahead with much peace
and contentment. Pray to him everyday and if need be talk to him about your problems as they arrive. Then you are ready and you will experience many good changes in your life.
