why do some people feel like they have to lie aboutusing drugs the amounts they use or if they get into a fight to exaggerate does it tie with low self esteem or immaturity.ex.james frey he lied about his drug usage and i know people who lie like that all the time why????

Don't worry about the links because drug users are in denial anyway (denial=believing the lies you tell yourself or Didn't Even Know I Was Lying) Every kind of lying you mention is dishonesty: there is no sense complicating it with $20 words. And I would say all people who lie cannot be honest with themselves.
Think of them as sick people, not evil ones. That does not mean you have to be in their company. I find it very stressful to be around dishonest people & avoid them most of the time. I prefer to be with people who are true to their word and true to themselves.

Slight embellishments of stories is expected. When a story goes around, like a rumor, the greater number of times the story has been told and retold the larger number of embellishments the story has, until it is totally unlike the original version. A great deal of embellishments are to abbreviate the story and make it shorter by fudging a few facts. Other embellishments make the story funnier and more exciting to listen to or even more consistent, but less accurate.

It is known among staff at drug treatment centers that drug users lie about the amount of drugs they take. They say they take less than what they do.
I don't know about Frey.
He lied to make a book. Not the same thing.

Called insecurity. People lie about everything to make themselves who they are not -- trying to be better than they actually are. Sad situation Maybe truth serum?

People who lie do it because they feel inferior and they want attention. They don't fool everyone, that's for sure.
