People are begining to understand Islam, to see that its not what it seemed. After 9-11, people actually went to bookstores to buy a Qur'an and see what was Islam all about. Some of them saw something that they didn't imagine and found belief and spirituality. Some others, have acepted Islam as a peaceful religion and don't bash it anymore. Conversion is the main factor of this growth.

I think it appeals to people in former colonies who have been abused and exploited by Europeans and Christians. Africa is a good example. It empowers them after centuries of being underdogs and colonial lackeys.
