I had a discussion with someone that I thought if a man asked a woman out, he should pay, or if he wanted to go "Dutch" he should let her know in advance. What are your thoughts? Do you feel taken advantage of?

if you are going on a date, no matter who asks, you should always be prepared. don't assume that he/she will pay. if you do your *** may not eat. i always come prepared because if he/she is a jerk i will be ready for anything.

Well, maybe he just had a brain fart, who knows. Maybe he had a whole bunch of tables that night where it was all the guys paying and his brain was just caught in that gear. It's not THAT big of a deal to give the check to the wrong person. What whaler's said about the waiter/waitress putting the bill in a neutral location is generally much more common nowadays. I tend to find this to be more of the norm, but I wouldn't be too hard on the guy for something like giving the bill to your fiance instead of you. Did he look to you to order first too, or did you notice that at the start of your meal? Edit: Oh, ok then. For all any of us know, his mind could have been a hundred miles away. Especially if you had to actually get his attention for the bill! lol.

Guys should pay, but splitting isn't much of a big deal and have done it many times.

I've had some ladies pay for me and it was pretty damn sweet.

I usually do it without asking, but if I am the one that always is paying, then I start getting a little mad.

Traditions aren't dogma, she should be paying for things too once in a while.

Normally, men will pay for the dinner. Unless some other arrangements have been discussed prior to the date.

Traditionally, I say the guy should pay, but as a common courtesy, the lady should at least make an offer to at least split the costs. If the guy accepts, then that's a bad light on him.

Well, it has long been tradition that man provides for the woman. So it is expected of him to take care of women put in his custody.

If you ask a girl out on a date, you're supposed to be taking care of her since she is in your custody/care.

Yeah. I guess if he asks you then he should pay.
If it's just to go out, you should split.
Women want equality but don't want to be treated equally on a date.
