if you can't wait, simply put an inch of water to boil, then add the tomatoes, put the lid and let it go for a couple of minutes. Then turn off the heat and leave it there for half an hour. Check if the skin has started to break and if so, lift the tomatoes from the water and let them drain for a while before using them for your sauce.

Yes put them in the sun to ripen or put them in the same bowl as a ripe banana. This gives off chemicals which hasten the process (but not so quickly that they'll be ready for tonight's dinner). If you need the salsa today you'll have to buy some more. Make husband go to the store again and tell him to ask this time!

If you have time, you can let it get softer by putting it in a brown paper bag and just letting it sit for at least a day or even more; until it gets as soft as you want it. It may seem weird, but that's how all fruits ripen. Yes, a tomato is a fruit. However, if you don't have time, you can just stew them in a BIT of water (not so much water that it's a soup).

Hold off a few days until they are softer.....

Picked green tomatoes will ripen slowly if left on a sunny window sill. Tomatoes placed in a paper bag with a piece of ripe fruit will ripen faster than the other methods mentioned.

set them in a window to be softened by the sun or try this use the defrost on a low setting to cook them slow inside a little then chill them and cutt up for the salsa

Let them sit out for a couple of days. If you want to use them RIGHT now you could always cook them a little first.

They will soften in time. If you want salsa right away, you should buy some more.
