for immediate solution why don't you try over the counter child medication only (smaller dose) allergy medicine - since one of symptoms your describing is itching.
then go to Drs Foster & Smith website and order the "vitacaps" and give them to your dog (mixed in her food) all year long to keep her skin itch free. i give them to my dog and i never i had to spend $400 to get her to stop itching. good luck

You are not a bad dog owner just because you don't rush to the Vet, just like a parent who does not rush their child to the ER every time they whimper, does not make them a bad parent. You know when it's just something that can wait a day or two and when you need to get medical attention right away. I understand the financial situation - $400.00 is a lot of money! I think that you used good judgment, and that makes you a good pet owner! Now go buy your dog a special treat or toy!!

Well, a lot of the people answering are kids who look at the world through rose colored glasses. They have not had the 'honor' or sitting up at night with a sick animal and going through the scenarios in their heads....
...Can I put off paying the light bill for one more week until my next paycheck in order to spend the money to try to treat an animal that may or may not survive?
...What will my children think if their beloved pet dies?
...Six months ago I could have afforded this, but since the engine in the car blew up and a recent storm damaged the house, we just do not have the $400 to spend to start treatment on our beloved pet.
Sometimes people do not live in the ideal world that children see, and children just do not have the life experiences to see that sometimes you have to make hard choices in life. And sometimes you have to put the human portion of your family before the pet portion, as difficult as that is. Now before anyone jumps all over me, I believe that pets should have their needs met, and be given as much love and attention as possible. However, sometimes situations arise, and you may have to make those unpopular choices and decisions.

Sorry I missed your other question. Some people get their kicks by jumping all over people. If your dog just has an itching problem, there is no need to rush out right away to the vet. If I knew what the problem was, I might be able to help. I am not a vet, just had a lot of experience with dogs.

Actually, I don't know much about animals, I think you might have asked another question somewhere that you got some acenign answers, and I wouldn't be surprised, some people come up with rude or what they might think to be funny answers when some are looking for a serious answer. I think for the most part, if a person is looking for an answer that they really need help with, there are certainly lots of sites that give lots of information, that is what browsing is about, and I don't mean to be sarcastic, sometimes I don't want to put my question on here, it may be to personal to me or I just don't expect intellectual answers, besides, I would have to read through 50 answers to get the important one anyway. I'm sure your question is worthwhile, if I find the other question, I might look up what you might do for your dog, most are among humanity's best friends!

I read your original question, and researched the answer advising you to give Tylenol or aspirin. Aspirin is alright if the vet calculates the dose, Tylenol is toxic to dogs and can kill them. Their livers can not handle it. Hopefully you did not take that advice.
Have you looked into the area to see if the gums are swollen, perhaps she has something stuck in her gums or the tissues inside her jaw. You can try rinsing out her mouth with warm water and a syringe. If that doesn't help and she isn't better tomorrow then you may want to consider contacting your vet and working out a payment plan. Most vets care more about helping the animals than the money and will work with you.

Hey I'm a huge animal lover. Soon 2 b a vet. hopefully. All I can tell u is ask ur family and/or friends to help out. If they don't take if it's just an "itch" then by some soothing shampoo to help ease the itch.

I understand that. My dog has a ear infection that i took her to our APA about and they gave me meds for free. Try looking one up in your area and see if they cant provide you with free to low cost vet services or know someone that can. It pays to ask sometimes. My APA gave me meds and cleaned my dogs ears for free and it was really worth it. Her ear infection looks better already and its been 3 days. She had it for a long time and its now chronic but still curable but it may take sometime but you can find vets that dont charge an arm and a leg. You dont have to be rich to own an animal sometimes things happen. There's been times i couldnt afford to take myself to the dr but you work with what you got dont ya. Its cool there are people here who understand.

Don't stress over those that don't understand your situation or can't manage to visualize what it's like to stand in your shoes.
Hope you're able to get your baby fixed up soon, tho. Good Luck.
