It depends on how wavy you want it. If you want big waves part your hair into six sections and apply mousse to each section. Then braid each section and tie your hair down. this should be done the night before preferably before you go to bed. when you wake up in the morning unbraid your hair and it will be wavy and soft. make sure you use a frizz free mousse that does not make you hair hard such as john Freida's frizz free serum. Trust me this works I do it all the time when i want a different look with out taking alot of time or spending money.

typically all mousse products have the same ingrediants in them but still we all have our personal favorites. Mine is Paul Mitchell -> it works great with my hair. Okay, you have two options really:
OPTION 1
Take about 1/2 table spoon of gel and rub it between your hands to evenly spread it across your palm. Then flip your head upside down and apply the gel throughout your hair. Next, take a diffuser (which, if you dont know, is an attatchment to a blowdryer) and difuse your hair while using your other hand to continue to scrunch the hair..When your hair is about 1/2 way dry apply the same amount of mousse throughout your hair (that'll keep the frizz down).... (directions for diffusing hair are on the diffuser when you buy it... for about 8 dollars you can get a decant one anywhere like Target or Walgreens)
OPTION 2
Take Mousse and apply it evenly throughout your hair (about a tablespoon) then starting at the ends of your hair wrap thick strands around your fingers. hold for a few seconds and then let go...repeat that until your hair is dry *take a long time* or use a blowdryer and scrunch your hair between your fingers while blowdrying.
**GET MOUSSE WITH NO ALCOHOL**

When your hair is wet- Dripping wet! Spray hair spray from a can (not the pump type) all over your hair. Comb through and then scrunch your hair from tips to roots. This works best if you lean forward so your hair can lift up from the roots. You can speed this process up by using a blow dryer on med speed. Using a blow dryer will also eliminate crunchy hair if you know what I mean. The product you use depends on the the thickness of your hair. Hair serum only works when you use a blow dryer.

here are some suggestions to get wavy/curly hair. i havent tried some of them, but i ve heard that they work-
curl with iron or rollers
put some hairspray in ur hair before going to bed and the tossing and moving will create random waves
braid ur hair and when u remove it there will be waves
put some defining product in ur hair and keep twirling it around ur finger. then, finger comb gently through to separate the waves
use sea salt spray or surf spray. sea salt will give really pretty beach waves
scruch it with gel
good luck!

I have long strait hair... I used to buy a product that makes you have wavy hair by just spraying it in. I can't remember the exact name or brand but I think it's by John Frieda and called Beach Blonde Waves or something ..... It comes in an aqua or light blue bottle and you just spray it in your hair. You should be able to buy it at any drug store or at Walmart / Target for like $5-10.

My hair is really long and I use to lightly spray it with warm water until it was just damp, then braid it into random-sized sections all over. I have straight hair, so when I took them out, i could brush it to detangle it and then just mess around with it with my fingers to calm it down and it would still be really nice wavy/curly. I actually always got a lot of compliments ^__^ It was just kinda a ***** to sleep in...

I think the best way to get great waves is to wash your hair put some mouse on it and then braid it. Air dry it like that and when you unbraid it, it will be nice and wavey.
