I think the worst thing you could do is make them feel like they are disgusting or what they were doing was "gross". Imagine how that would make them feel about sexuality, especially as they got older. Hello, therapist!

Just simply tell them "don't do that you prat", then kick them off the computer and send them to their room for a bit...... but ideally you should have prevented it from happening in the first place, by installing something like ZONEALARM INTERNET SECURITY SUITE which has built-in parental controls alongside it's Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware + FIREWALL features.
But you've also got to remember that with kids, words like "Bum" (butt), "Willy" (penis) & Pooh, and all variables of these are usually the funniest words (and objects) in the world to them, so it's only natural for them to look them up through an Internet search engine such as YAHOO or GOOGLE....... I guess it's kinda like a Hi-Tech version of flicking through a dictionary to look up all the rude words (and I'm sure nearly all of us did that when we were kids at some point).

That kind of curiousity is normal.
I wouldn't have a computer anywhere except in common areas of the house, so there's less temptation to try to find such sites, and I'm more likely to catch it.
I'd talk about it.
And I'd periodically check my computer's history, to see what he'd been looking at.
But I certainly wouldn't beat a child because of it.

I wouldn't whip them, but I would ask what they were doing.
I think it's key to have good communication with the child. That way, they don't have to "hide" out, but can feel comfortable asking you (the parent).
Whipping comes when you've told them repeatedly, and they still refuse. One quick whack is good... and then you lock them out of the computer.

The internet is a dangerous place to be looking at anything. If I had a child I would tell them if they wanted to looks dirty pictures to get some magazines and hide them from me. As long as I dont see the mags I wouldn't care.

use your parental controls on the computer but i think if they were 17 or so you know they prolly masterbate and i think you would rather them do that then be out getting some girl pregnant and getting a rough start to life, they could just be curious you should have a one on one talk

it depends how old they are I think talking to them is a better idea then beating them if they are young under 15 they are probably just curious and if they are older they have probably already seen or talked about anything they are going to see on the Internet
