- Go through your computer and try to delete any unnecessary folders.

- Go to your add/remove programs and remove any software that you do not recognize and know that you did not download. If you are not sure research what the software is you don't want to remove anything that you might regret.

- Install AdAware from Downloads.com, the free version and scan your computer. It will pick up event what Norton virus cannot pickup and let the software remove all those files.

- If you are still having space issues try to burn stuff that you do not use on regular basis on CDs or DVDs and remove from your computer.

- Of course run a virus scan.

- If you have multiple users on your PC remove the unused ones. They take a lot of space.

- Defrag your pc after you take out every possible thing there is that you can think of.

- Oh one more. CLcik start>run and type msconfig. Go to startup tab and uncheck anyunnecessary application you know. Those are the apps that starts when you turn on your pc. It will slow down your pc, and you can browse any app you want any time. why have it start up when you are not using it?

Of course buying memory or ram is an option. Before you go out there and spend your money on anything try all these free ways to clean up your pc.

Good Luck! Contact me with any questions.

The fact that you only have 1.2 GB space left could be why it's so sluggish. More computer specs would help us understand the problem but you really need to delete some unused programs, games and other files. But be sure you know what you're deleting before you delete it. I'd also run Spybot just to be sure you don't have any adware or spyway lingering.

Things like the amount of RAM you have and the speed of your Processor make a difference in the speed of your computer but it gradually gets slower as you fill up your hard drive.

a full hard drive slows down a computer...another is slow memory...try closing some applications which you may have launched but is currently not using (those that run on the background) or better yet uninstall applications which automatically starts up when you open up your computer even if you don't need them...wsconfig is a command that can help you disable these applications...you may also stop services using ctrl-alt-del and opening your task manager...

Yes and with so little space left Windows is writing fragmented files which slow you down even more.

download crap cleaner at www.ccleaner.com and remove the unnecessary files first and see what you have left. You should keep about 25% of your disk free for performance reasons if you can. Run defrag also.

when you're running out of space, your computer tends to get slower. how much ram do you have? that also has an effect because if you don't have enough, part of your hard drive becomes "virtual memory" and well, you're running out of space...

Buy a bigger hard drive . its easy to install and do not remove the 20g one. Move all your files to the new one and use the seond one to download to. also uninstall all the junk you dont use.
