Try ending some conversations without saying goodbye, or even acknowledging the end at all. Or, you could try standing too close to strangers, wearing your underwear on the outside, singing loudly while walking down the street. Use your imagination.

If any stranger tried to hug me without asking first, I would probably freak out and assume they were trying to assault me, which could lead me to retaliate physically and possibly hurt someone. Frankly, I think hugging strangers is a horrible idea and you're lucky nothing bad has come of it so far. Well, nothing bad for you. You know nothing about the people you hugged. For all you know you did some serious damage to someone, like a person with a phobia of being touched or someone who was assaulted once. Standing closer to people than is normal is probably a much safer way, though frankly if someone invades my space for no good reason I think they're annoying and disrespectful of me, not that they're trying to challenge or push social norms. I don't know, I guess I don't really see what you're trying to do here, and I can't really see how breaking these particular norms is all that significant to society either.

Try bowing or dropping a curtsy upon meeting to each person you interact with. The social norm is handshaking, so that would qualify.Or try skipping instead of walking. If you have to do this in a group, try walking with your group members in a conga line to where ever you go.Weird, yes, but damn amusing to all involved.

yes, instead of ignoring the "un-cool" kids or the geeks, freaks, stoners etc... whichever group you are not a part of be nice to them that would break the norm. Address your teachers as sir and mam, and stand up in class when you give an answer.

I remember doing this when I did my soc undergrad, such a fun assignment! What a few of us did was we got together and rode up and down the elevator, facing backwards, and in different directions, with our faces down at the floor. People actually refused to get on the elevator, it was hysterical.

Best Wishes,
Holly

* Wear strange face paint and very strange clothes, and go grocery shopping.
* Talk very loudly and very close to people's faces.
* Don't make eye contact with anyone at all.
* Go to a game and wear the other team's colors.
* Go out without brushing your hair or putting on makeup, and wear pajamas or bummy looking clothes. Go somewhere semi-nice, like a club.(if they'll let you in.)
**Clap whenever anyone does or says something you approve of, or if you see something you like, like a sale on jeans. Just clap like it's totally normal, and keep a straight face.

Good luck!
