If you don't have enough money for a vet then you SHOULD NOT HAVE A DOG!!!!!
Seriously, you are a cruel person who gets a pet but then can't properly care for it.
How dare you!!!!!!! You should be ashamed of yourself!

My dog had the exact same problem. It happened on the weekend so I didn't want to have to take her to the emergency clinic so I watched her very closely for the whole day and she became less and less bothered by whatever was wrong. The swelling went down overnight and she is fine. I would not feed her for a while in-case the swelling spreads to her throat and she can't swallow. If it looks like it is having problems breathing or If it lasts for more than a day I would take her in. Some vets will let you pay later.
You got a lot of grief for not having money to take the dog in which I agree you should be prepared just like with a child to spend emergency money to care for a sick animal. For the future you may want to check into pet insurance that will cover you in these situations. Good luck and take care.

HI RACH. FIRST OF ALL, I MUST SAY GEEEES ALREADY! I WANT TO DEFEND YOU HERE. )Tbn is being investigated by the way. I DO NOT LIST MY CURRENT OCCUPATION FOR GOOD REASONS. ANYWAY, PEOPLE ARE JUDGING YOU WITHOUT KNOWING THE FACTS ONCE AGAIN. (Notice you do not have the ability to email these particular people. ???) PLEASE DO NOT FEEL BAD WITH WHAT THESE PEOPLE ARE SAYING. BUNCH OF KNUCKLEHEADS. YOU CAME HERE FOR HELP.
Ok, now....... I know many many people that fell ill and also could not take their pets to the vet. Some did make payment arrangements knowing very well that they weren't going to be able to pay ANYWAY. Nice that these people don't experience such problemos. There is pet insurance but you want to call around to some vets and ask what they do and do not take, just like with regular medical insurance for people. At one time, I myself unexpectedly ran into trouble that no one could forsee. As heartbreaking as it was, I tried to give a dog away through all means possible and of course, a shelter and guess what? They said he was not adoptable and would be put to sleep. So I wonder if these knuckleheads know all this. Was I supposed to just say "Alrighty then! Awaaaaay he goes. Good riddins! See ya." Noooooooooo way. That's nuts!! Of course I kept him. I also know people that even bounced checks to buy time because they were desperate to get their pets help and their vet(s) would NOT help if the owner DID NOT HAVE MONEY!! I am not suggesting you do this. Just trying to give you a little support here. Hopefully, these people will run into unexpected trouble that is out of their control and not their fault. Hopefully, THEY will suffer the minimal consequences (NOT their pets) just to learn that things do happen to people. I could care less how many people give me a thumbs down. If you don't have the facts, gees, leave these people alone. Best to ya Rach!!

Dachshunds are well known to have teeth problems. Either she has something lodged in her tooth or she has a bad tooth and it is hurting. I have a 2 yr old Dachshund and I have to brush his teeth. Not every day but a couple times a week. The way their mouths are put together they seem to have a hard time getting food that maybe stuck in their teeth out. And this after time causes tartar build up and decay. I think it has something to do with the way their mouth and teeth are set. They have that long pointy snout and their teeth are really packed in there kinda tight and close together and their lips fit very snug agaist the upper and lower jaw and gum line. This makes it difficult for them to get food particals out once they've eaten. I will take a soft bristled tooth brush with just a little bit of flouride tooth paist on it and gently brush along his tooth and gum line. I know that sounds a little weired. But actually after he got used to me doing this 2 or 3 times a week he has gotten to where he likes it. I guess he realized that it actually feels kinda good to his mouth. But if your little one is already suffering from what I believe to be a bad or rotten tooth and it's causing him that much pain? You really need to find away to get the poor little thing into the vet. Sometimes they will work with you on the payment. Because most of them just want to help the animal that is sick or hurting. And that little one sounds like she's hurting.

I know what your going through, my puppy is sitting on my lap right now & has been getting sick for hours now. I dont have enough money to leave him at the emergency vets for $1500 then have them transfer him to my regular tommorow am for more charges. Dont take what people say on here personal, not everyone has $1500 or $2000 to just put up with no worries. So your not a bad person, just cause your not rich. I would make sure your baby is getting lots of fluids and take him to a local humane society if you have one. They will usually offer vet services alittle cheaper then a private vet. I would definitley get him there soon though. He probably isnt to comfortable. Let me know how it goes, we can be eachothers support! :) Hope for the best..

First of all, you don't go ahead a deworm a puppy without knowing if he really has worms - second, a puppy is NOT supposed to grow fast - any growing done too quick, will probably end up with health problems, for the organs haven't had a chance to keep up with the fast growth. It can also develop hip problems, because the sockets haven't had a chance to develop properly, either. I would definitely bring him to a vet as soon as possible, because I don't think that he should have gotten dewormed without knowing for sure. Hope all goes well !

I know you don't have cash on hand, but if you have a regular vet, they might be willing to work out payments for you with a small down payment.
You could try some of the suggestions here, but the truth is that only a vet can really diagnose what's wrong with your puppy. If you try some of these other methods, you could be only prolonging your puppy's suffering.
If your vet won't work with you, contact your local shelter to see if they will or know a vet who might be willing to.

It does sound like a tooth ache, maybe he has something stuck in his ttoth. For the pain, anyway, you can give him baby tylenol to releave the pain. Try this for a week or so if you see no improvement you may have to take him to the vet. Maybe they can atleast tell you whats wrong. If you tell them you can't afford anything, they can at least give him a check up ($50) and tell you what the problem might be. My vet has suggested treatments that cost hundreds and I told her that I could not afford it and she gave me a alternative that cost nothing so give it a try. Maybe just call and talk to the doctor.

Maybe you should feel around in her mouth and see if there is something stuck, like a piece of wood (my dog chews sticks and sometimes she gets a piece stuck). Is she eating and drinking? If she is, then that's a good sign! By the way.... how many people who go to the ER pay the tab before they leave? I've never known anyone!

Sounds like she has been stung by a bee or wasp. Get some Childrens liquid benadryl. Give her a small child's dose. If that doesn't help in a couple of hours, give her another dose. The main thing to watch is if she is having trouble breathing! If that happens and you do not take her to the vet, she will die.
