I'm a recovering alcoholic. And for me,when I drink,I never know what is going to happen,or when it's going to end. That is what classifies me as an alcoholic.Once I start drinking, it always ends in some sort of negative consequence. It might take weeks,or it might take days. But I always make a mess of my life.I'll sleep with someone I just met, wreck a car, lose my job,get in fights,be arrested....Anything you can imagine, can happen. My life just becomes completely unmanageable. And I will continue this behavior until I die of alcoholism. That is why I can't have that first drink or drug, now that I'm clean and sober. The end is always the same: jails, institutions and death.

Not really, been an alcoholic is not measured by how much alcohol or alcohol craving a person has. Is more than that, usually when some one is craving any type of drug is because of the body system is having a withdrawal, but what if you make it part of you routine to drink every day after coming from work, just to relax, you will not notice that you have a problem with alcohol until the day you can't have that drink.

not sure. I always thought alcoholics drank almost every day, had a craving for alcohol at a specific time of day, and usually also drank in the morning. However, if you feel you may be alcoholic you should ask someone (i.e. an aa meeting, a friend or parent who you know will tell the truth).

There are four criteria for diagnosing alcoholism which have been established by the AMA:
"Morning-after" shakes
Hallucinations which are definitely alcohol related
"Blackouts" temporary alcohol-induced amnesia
Delerium tremens.
Any ONE of these will complete the diagnosis
There are a lot of heavy drinkers, daily drinkers, who are NOT alcoholic.

No!!! It ability you're popular (or a minimum of i desire it does). i've got self belief an identical way, i might desire to take it or leave it, yet I very often take it!!! you're purely an alcoholic in case you become dependant on alcohol, and are unable to get by way of an afternoon devoid of it. You pass forward and sensibly relish a tumbler of wine or 2.

I dont think so, if your causing harm to yourself or anyone else then id say theres a problem. Theres also maintenance drinkers, those are the ones that work and carry on productive lives but drink alot when everything is done. If there are conflicts or problems caused from drinking then it seems there is a problem.

They don't have to crave it, but alcoholics lose control of themselves in its presence. They don't know how or when to say NO among other things.

not necessarily. alcoholics "need" alcohol to get through days. they think that they can't handle whatever stress the day might have. my father is a recovering alcoholic. i just know what my father has told me and alcoholism sucks.

Alcoholics, by definition, drink uncontrollably. They cannot stop once they start.
