A famous protestant theologian who became a Catholic cardinal, John Henry Newman, said that one thousand people hate the Catholic Church for what it is, but one million hate it for what they think it is. Likewise, when the Lutheran and Catholic Churches formed a joint commission on Mary and the New Testament, to the theologians shock, they all generally agreed with one another. Further, Scott Hahn a leading protestant scripture scholar accidently read Catholic scripture scholarship and found not only he agreed with it but that the quality was excellent. As he picked up two thousand years worth of scripture scholarship he realized the Catholic Church was the most scriptural of all the Churches. This placed him in a nightmarish position. He was offered the deanship of a leading protestant school, but he was in great internal termoil. He got other protestant theologians to read the same material because he was certain he was missing something. Instead of talking him out of becoming Catholic, they became Catholic before him.
The Evangelical Lutheran Church is seeking formal reunion with Rome.
Most Protestants and almost all on this board believe Catholics have beliefs they do not have. What they do not realize is that the Reformation was a civil war run by people with strong financial interests in the outcome. When theological statements are war banners and people are called by princes to die for them, you get terrible theology. And, once people start dying, it is very important to believe the others are not only the ones who are wrong but that you are the one right.
That is the reason you hear myth on this board like that Constantine founded the Catholic Church or that Catholics worship Mary or were not allowed to read the bible. Each of those myths is interesting to trace in its origins and it is amazing how powerful false belief is.
So I give you this idea, the Catholic Church preceeds the bible, determined which books would be included in it, preceeds Protestantism by 1500 years, is still one Church but there are now 46,000 distinct Protestant denominations each proclaiming they are the ones with the truth. Catholic teaching is unchanged, but Protestants change beliefs every time they vote at a conference.
One in five people in the world are Catholic. They do not really agree with one another in the sense you mean because they do not need to. They just need to love one another. The bible can have one meaning to one person that fits their personal circumstances while it can mean something different to someone else. The Catholic and the Orthodox Churches are really one Church in schism and they still proclaim the same message and the scriptures are a part of the message.

Neither one of them. The Bible that you read today is a translation of a translation of a translation, well you get the point.
originally there were more than eighty gospels and after many alterations and modifications , each to suit somebodies purpose ,only four survived and in a highly adulterated form.
MR. Dan Brown might be closer to the truth than many a pastor or priest. A lot of "midrash" is needed to glean the many perspectives in the Old Testament , some of the narratives MAY BE LITERAL BUT THE MAJORITY ARE JUST ALLEGORIES TO POINT TO FURTHER Teachings and wisdom for your own personal application.

I am a Protestant and I can only respond in my own way of belief. Catholics place a lot of emphasis on the Virgin Mary, which to the best of my knowledge is not Biblical. In the Catholic faith and their way, they even pray using Mary as the authority to speak to God. Although I acknowledge Mary was the Mother of Jesus, where does it say in the Bible that she is anything more than that? Was it a past Pope who came up with this? It’s not in the Bible non-the-less. The only Authority to converse with God is Jesus Himself.

People cannot agree because the Lord has set a "communications barrier" between us! It happened at the Tower of Babel & continues to this day! For IF we could actually communicate (not just speak the same dialect) but really talk to one another on the same level....then NOTHING would be impossible for us. Ge 11:6 -The Lord said, "If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them.

Nobody is right, everybody is right. These are just opinions and beliefs of the unobservable. You left out a lot of religiions, by the way. Religions are like clocks on the wall all telling different but similar times. Choose for yourself and don't worry--be happy

People can't agree on interpretations of laws that were written last year, in their language, with the writers still alive.

If they are for us then they cannot be against. Where ever two or three are gathered in my name...i am with them....
The number one thing God asks of us is obediance...the protestants rebelled from the catholic church and therefore are in a state of disobediance....but at least they are all christians....or christ centered

If you study Christian history, you'll find that the Church came before the bible, and you'll find that the original Chrisitian church was the Catholic church. It was around for 1,500 years before Protestantism showed up (historical fact).
