First of all that is a genuinely nice thing to do, he was being a gentleman.
He may have been making a move. Do you want him to? If yes than why don't you say something to him in the near future like: You know I really appreciated you letting me wear your coat the other night, I'd like to pay you back and buy you lunch or a drink. If he declines you know he was just being nice. If accepts you may be on your way to a nice relationship with a great guy.
