Sometimes after he eats lunch, he asks, can he not have dinner. he doesnt want to eat anything but cereal. he dont even want cake for his birthday party this is weird i dont really know when he started doing this but its been going on for a while. what i wanna kno is, is this a disorder or stage of anorexia or a compulsive cereal thing?

well his mom took him to the dr. a while ago but the dr. said he was fine but i dont know. His brother said that the dr. didnt say anything because his mom didnt explain well. We're all afraid that one day if he gets skinny or too skinny hes goin to faint right in front of us.

I would say that its an example of poor parenting. Instead of letting the child have cereal for every meal, tell him "no" and give him something else. He believes that since he asks for cereal (being his favorite food), his parents will give it to him. I believe it not to be an eating disorder, but a problem with control via the parents.

Eating Disorder or Disordered Eating???

At 10 years old he should not be eating just cereal. It is normal for a 2 or 3 year old to go through a period where they only want to eat one thing...my sons was spaghetti o's..but, not for a 10 year old. Your sister needs to take your nephew to another Dr. there is no way for a child of 10 to get all of the proper nutrition he needs from eating just cereal. I hope you are able to get your nephew the help he needs.

well...funny you should say this, I thought my son was the only one doing this, I think it can lead to an eating disorder and must be carefully watched but do not criticize, find information for him on how important it is to have protein in the diet especially for good growth. I have to watch my son carefully and I try to encourage him in subtle ways to get him to eat a good meal. And if someone stops buying him the cereal he will get hungry enough to eat other things, I purposely will buy cereal every once in awhile. He may get edgy about why there is no cereal but they adapt. Watch also for binge eating and then vomiting afterwards, this can pose serious problems and it must be brought to attention in a loving way but he also should get some support to eat healthy.

It could be a compulsive disorder, anorexia is not cause he's eating something. I just think that you need to speak to a doctor about it and maybe have a referral for a child psychologist or maybe prohibit the cereal and see if then by you adults not being the facilitators of a bad habit, he decides to eat something else when he is really hungry or does it have a stronger psychological effect. *** Still I will call his doc, and consult with him/her.

I would ask him in a discrete matter, how he feels about his body. Why he only eats cereal. Talk to him ask him why he eats like that. It is not too young to start devoloping an eating disorder. If you notice anymore weird behaviors - hidding food in his lap, throwing away many napkins, leaving the table to go the bathroom many times - he may be throwing away his food. Be cautious, an eating disorder can ruin his life, and believe me i know from experience.

Maybe the kid just really likes cereal

I believe that it could be alittle of both. He could have some sort of eating disorder but it could just be that he really likes cerial. Get him checked out by a doctor and see what they tell you. I have gone through that myself with Peanut Butter.
