That slogan was based on the number of international passengers transported by British Airways, the number one international airline. Also, Heathrow Airport is the number one airport on international flights.
But, BA dropped the slogan a few years ago.

This article taken from The Observer:

Ryanair is claiming to have stolen the title of 'the world's favourite airline' from British Airways after it carried more passengers than BA for the first time.
The no-frills carrier said it took more than 3.26 million passengers last month - up by 27 per cent on August last year and 156,000 more than the 3.1 million carried by BA. This knocked the UK firm off the top spot as Europe's most popular carrier for the first time, although BA dismissed the figures, saying: 'It doesn't matter.'

Ha! They're definitely not MY favourite airline! They treat their retired staff really badly. If you book flights with them on your retirement allowance, they send you this letter before hand to tell you to decline the offer of the amenity kits (cheap gits!) on the flight, but to do it "in a discreet manner" so that the other paying passengers don't realise how tight they are to their ex-employees. If this is how they treat their own, how do you think they're going to treat you?

Also, the old biddy flight attendants are in a constant strop.

It must be based on the fact that they cover more of the world than any other airline.

They're certainly not mine. Their frequent flyer programme is the the worst of all major airlines in terms of return-for-input.

They are up there--certainly one of the best airlines in the world, plus their fleet is HUGE.

Favourite to themselves, the way (I have heard )they treat their fellow colleagues is appalling but, don`t quote me it`s only hearsay, It would be nice to think they are the best somehow I don`t think they even for example come close to TAP.
