Do the adults wear top hats and the kids wear yarmulkes? Or does it have to do with wealth and social status?

I THINK the Jewish males who wear tall black hats are Hasidic Jews, and the ones who wear the yarmulkes are... regular practicing Jews???
I just checked it out on wiki, and I think I might be right. Maybe.

It's one of the 613 commandments. Many Jews ignore it, however, outside of synagogue.

It's interesting that not covering your head in a synagogue is considered disrespectful, while not uncovering your head in a Christian church is also considered disrespectful.

neither; under the black hats are the yarmulkes.
It all depends on the brand of Judaism they are...(Reform, Conservative, Orthodox, Sat Mars; Lubuvitchers; etc.)
