A very wise person told me once
"When you pray remember two things:
1. Who you are talking to
2. Who is doing the talking"
As for your question:
I am unable to divide the two in my life's walk.
(Blessings)

Why would a person fear their own shortcomings? If you fear what you've done wrong, aren't you also saying that you fear the one (God) who will hold you accountable for those wrongdoings?
Fear of the lord is the beginning of wisdom, not fear of yourself.

God bless your dear heart. I struggle with my own shortcomings, also, but I am still learning and know that God's knows I'm trying. I'm learning that I have nothing to fear of God, meaning He would never hurt me and He will always love me. I do fear Him though, as my God and Creator, as the Most High of All. I shudder in reverence for Him.
And so I continue to study and pray and try to stay in His grace so that I don't fall short, because I wanna get to heaven, :D
God bless.

I agree with you. so if I had to pick one of these two, it would be my shortcomings.. however..
ThatGuy - true, the child may believe they fear what their father may do when he gets home to find out what has been done.. but think about it, they fear more the punishment, the pain.. but as the child grows, isn't it more the disappointment that they've brought to their father/mother, than anything else..
So in truth, we fear our disappointing our heavenly Father..

Matthew Chapter 10 verse 28 "And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul:but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell ." Since those are Jesus's words I would fear God. I do not fear any so called short comings , because by faith I know My Father will forgive me if I repent.

Scripture reminds us to not fear those that can hurt the body, but to fear the One that has power to hurt the body AND cast into hell.
Fearing God with such holy respect is optimal for us. But then we also find that we let ourselves down, thinking we are much stronger than we really are.
The conviction of the Holy Spirit tells us we are guilty.
Satan uses our very real guilt to drive us away from God.
The Holy Spirit uses that same guilt to draw us to the foot of the approachable cross of Jesus in seeking forgiveness, repentance, and reconciliation.
Our sins sometimes surprise us.
They do not surprise our all-knowing God.

I fear my own shortcomings and like you, I fear disappointing God rather than fearing His punishments.

Actually they are one and the same. My shortcoming or sins make me fearful of God because Scripture says He hates sin. He hated sin so much He willing gave His Son on behalf of our sins. Jesus makes me able to approach God without fear and trembling. No better sacrifice has ever been given. No more ritual. No more superstition. Just Jesus.

I don't fear God..he loves me and He has forgiven my shortcomings. I fear for what I have failed to do also..just out of pure ignorance of laziness .

I fear my own shortcomings, for if I had none, I would be perfect and have no need to fear the Lord's disappointment in me.
