The apron is very good, but not perfect. However, today's x-rays are better than a long time ago... don't use as high "exposure". Also, the amount used for a small child (your 2 yr old) would be far less than required for an adult exposure, so you probably have nothing to worry about. Obviously you ARE worried, so I would suggest 2 things. Take a home test and call your OB/GYN's office and ask about the potential for danger if you are pregnant. They probably get questions like this more often than you think and will be glad to settle your mind. In the future however, if there is any POSSIBILITY of pregnancy, you should inform the x-ray tech. Also, depending on where your child was x-rayed (arm, foot, head...) you can ask for a shield for your child's reproductive organs, just as a precaution... my infant daughter had hip displasia and had to have x-rays over that region on a regular schedule for awhile. They can and do cover the ovaries for protection, even though they say that one exposure at the low settings would not cause any harm.... but it never hurts to be cautious. Call your Doc though, the stress of worry could be just as harmful if you don't ease your mind soon.

Today's X-ray machines are not nearly as powerful as those of just a few years ago. If you had a lead apron on when your 2-year-old was being X-rayed, you have nothing to worry about even if you were newly pregnant.

Dont worry about that at all. I had 2 xrays when I was pregnant and the baby is fine. Also my friend is a radiology tech and does xrays all day long for people and her baby was born last week perfectly fine. Definitley dont worry especially if you put the apron on.

Lead aprons are generally used to shield the baby from the bad things. I doubt it would cause a problem

Don't worry. If you wore the apron and weren't actually having the x-ray performed on you, there is very little risk to your fetus--if there should be one.

The chances of the radiation affecting a might be baby are slim to none. True, radiation can cause abnormalitlies, but ONE SHORT exposure is not a cause for alarm. If you are pregnant, at your first appointment mention it to the Doc. I am sure they'll tell you not to worry.

I'm no expert on this but I don't think one xray would hurt especially if you had on the apron.
