Please go read my last question that will explain this one.. Everyone's responses made me rush him to the emergency vet immediatley. They wanted $1500 to keep him overnight to run tests, then send him to my regular vets in the morning. Being othat Im 22 with not alot of money & no cc's I couldnt afford it. I have him home now, I feel horrible. He is sleeping now. He has thrown up 1 time since he got home. Its seems like its always after a ride. The vet didnt have any answers they told me not to feed him or give him water. He seems so thirsty. Im going to take him to my vets in the am. Does anyone know of any home remedies or something to maybe give him some nutrients in his body since he hasnt eaten since yesterday? I feel horrible not being able to do anything for him right now. I dont have any family, and just make ends meet with the money I have. I have bad credit, so now source of borrowed funds. Any info would be incouraging, at this point I dont know what to do anymore...

Spoke to another vet on the phone, going there in the am these people seemed to want to offer advice and not just tell me how much it was going to cost. Also gave the dog some Karo Syrup on his gums. How many times should I apply it? The first time didnt seem to do much.

If he seems thirsty, you can give him an ice cube to lick from time to time, and that will help his little mouth be more comfortable from the dryness. Just hold it in a washcloth and let him lick it a little bit, but not long enough to make his mouth too cold. Make sure he has a little blanket or a fluffy towel will do as well. Don't worry about nutrients for a day or so--eating or drinking can make the vomiting worse. One think you can consider doing is to rub a tiny amount of Karo syrup on his gums because the tiny ones can sometimes have low sugar when they're sick.

Take care and know that lots of people are praying for you and your sweet little puppy.

First off, don't feel so guilty. He's just as well off relaxing at your home rather than the further stress of being in a cage at the vet's, and at least at your house he won't be picking up any airborne viruses...

Don't give him any food or water tonight, even though he appears to be thirsty. One night without it with an upset stomach will do him more good than harm . Let him find a place in your home where he feels the safest and leave him to sleep. Rest is the best thing for him right now. He's been through a lot in his travels and needs to recuperate.

Make sure when you take him to your vet you have a record of any shots he's received, if he's ben wormed, any and all history you're aware of. You may want to contact the person you got him from to see if any littermates have had any similar problems.

I hope everything works out for you and him.

Deana, if you can't afford to bring your brand new puppy to the vet, why did you get him? You obviously shelled out a lot of money up front from this dog yet now you can't afford to have him treated? I just don't understand people who thinks that the financial responsibility of owning a dog ends when they give the breeder a hefty check for the dog.

I realize you are going through a difficult time right now, but *you can't afford a dog*. Even if he makes it through this, what happens next time? What happens if this bad breeder bred a dog with bad knees that require a $1000 surgery?

Honestly, if your dog makes it through all this, you should seriously consider giving him to rescue. You are not in a situation to take care of any animal other than maybe a goldfish. Rescue may even be able to help you with medical bills, provided he is an AKC Maltese. And the sooner you give him to rescue, the more likely he will be to be adopted. The demand for these small dog puppies is immense, so give him a chance to find a home with someone who can take care of him. I know it's a difficult decision and you will cry and cry over it, but you *know* it's the right thing to do for him. You will never be able to get over the guilt if a curable illness or affliction is encountered and you can't afford to fix it and someone else could have had you been responsible and rehomed him with the rescue organization. Right now you have to put both your future and your dog's future first. You don't want to go into thousands of dollars in debt and you don't want your dog's life to be in jeopardy. Do what's right and I hope he ends up being ok.

Even with bad credit, and I hate to see you go into more debt, but there is a company online called carecredit. They give you the ability to charge a pets care and pay it off. If you pay it off within a certain abount of time there is not interest. I believe it is www.carecredit.com. Other than that if you have some gatoraid or vitamin water that would help your dog. I am sorry but I don't believe in the vet you saw. Your dog needs fluids of some kind. Even a little bit of a cracker would help. Sounds to me from your previous question and now this your baby may need a better vet. You take care and my thoughts are with you. That $1,500 to keep him overnight tells me that they more want the money than to make your best friend ok. Please try at least some water with a teeny bit of salt in it or some bites of crackers (salt helps dehydration). Gatoraid would be best but if you don't have any, please try the water and salt.

The vet said to not give the dog anything. So do NOT give it anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Chances are that anything you give is going to come up, and that will make the dog feel worse. Do not give "home remedies" either. You may make things worse, or kill it. Take him in tomorrow and they will probably give him fluids either IV or SQ.
You have to come up with money somehow, or you have to find a new home for the dog with someone who can treat it. It was a bad idea to get a dog with no cash and bad credit!! Dogs are expensive!!!!!!
It is not bad for a dog with vomiting and/or diarrhea to fast for 24 hours. Sometimes that alone can "reset" the system. Just get the dog to the vet tomorrow ASAP!!

If your pet is showing signs of diarrhea, vomiting and hasn't had any vaccinations for parvo, sounds like you may be in trouble. The Vet should have gave medication for vomiting.I would suggest giving it some baby pediolyte, non flavored and a small amount at first ,then wait a while and increase gradually, this will keep him from dehydrating. You can go to the site below for home medications for pets. http://www.filarescue.org/medicines.shtml.,also give your pet 1 tsp per 5 LBS> every 6 hours for vomiting. You must get fluids into him/her,but only use the baby pediolyte.

Follow the vets advice. They may want him fasted in case they need to do surgery tomorrow. Just let the puppy rest. You may want to contact the breeder to see if any of his littermates have had any problems. If you got him from a responsible breeder they should have a health guarantee, since it sounds like he had this problem before you got him. Good luck, I know how hard it is when funds are tight and your baby is sick.

What the vet is doing is having you fast your dog. This will help give his stomach a chance to settle. This is a completely normal procedure.Do NOT give your dog ANY food or water until you see your vet in the morning. His stomach needs time to settle.

My heart goes out to you.
Don't think I am being mean but if you can't care for the dog anymore there are loads of caring people and shelters out there that can take the dog. I would take it if I could. But, otherwise mabey you should just give him away.
I'm very sorry.

My daughter's dog got sick recently and couldn't keep anything down. The vet told her to try rice and chicken or rice and beef and it worked. Apparently it's bland and doesn't upset the dog's stomach.
