If you want to make college easier for yourself, study hard while you're still in high school. Concentrate on your classes; don't listen to the people around you who say college and school are for losers. Crack the books instead of hanging out with your friends. Be SERIOUS about it all!
I'm 44 and am just starting college. Wish I knew then what I know now...

I had a difficult time in college. I was an average student in HS. I didn't really excel- but I held my own. College was over my head and I really struggled. I regret now that I did not utilize tutoring and focus more. Even if you do not think college is for you- at least try. It's a hard world out here with a degree. Experience and knowledge only get you so far. The piece of paper that is a degree will open a lot more doors. Most people don't even work in the same field as there degree is in. As my parents told me- pick a major any major and just get a degree. I am on the 20 year college plan now and it's harder now. One other piece of advice: Only play as hard as you work.
Good luck!

Work on your writing skills as much as possible, learn how to do your own laundry, and know your moral values and don't sway from them... A lot of kids get mixed up in partying and drinking too much, and their grades suffer so badly... Just remember that, just because mom and dad aren't there, you don't need to turn into the wild thing overnight.
Have an open mind to learning things you never thought you'd have to learn (eg, the social structure of biker gangs), and remember that not all people are as dumb as they seem. Always try to get enough sleep (though you never will). Never lose the opportunity to get in an extra five pages of reading. Never discount the possibility of having to work part time, especially as a waitress, Wal-Mart cashier, or ticket taker at the local square dancing club.
Most important, though, is to develop a love of learning. If you are actually enjoying your 8am Physics Lab, it's a lot easier to get there on time!

One of the best peices of advice I can give about college is to go to class. It may sound simple, but you'd be surprised at how many people just don't show up for class. Be prepared for each class as well. Study first, party later. Self dsicipline in college goes a long way to achieving your goals.
