That depends. If she has had mono it's very unlikely she would have another case, but it is possible. This illness can be monitored with a follow up blood test called EBV Igm. Once this is negative you are no longer contagious. Some people are only contagious for 6 weeks and others can be contagious for months. You should also avoid any activities that could result in a blow to the abdomen because the spleen may enlarge and a blow could cause a ruptured spleen. This would be an emergency. And don't forget: do not let anyone drink after you.

Mono can be caused by different viruses. If it's caused by Epstein-Barr's virus, it is transmissible by saliva and you shouldn't kiss anyone.

okay, a:) they call it the kissing disease for a reason, and b:) my sister had it, she couldn't have any contact for 6 mos. literally, so no you can not kiss your girlfriend, or hug her, or anyone for that matter.....
