Do any of you other people actually have kids???? I have four kids, this sounds like one of those six year molars coming in, it looks like half of the tooth is covered by gums, that is the tooth breaking through and they can be very painful. Remember that five year old as a baby crying and running a slight fever when she was cutting a tooth? Same thing, but because molars are flat they really can hurt, there is more gum area that has to give way instead of a sharp edged tooth like the front ones. Give her some motrin, make some smoothies, have her suck on an ice cube (dont chew!) and it will pass in a couple of days.

It could be a number of different things.

The worst case sonario would be an abcess. But it sounds more like her 6 yr. molar considering that she does not have facial swelling.

When children's teeth begin to erupt into the mouth they can experience fever. While you are waiting to see the dentist apply an over the counter topical jel, such as orajel to the area. Use sparingly b/c if swallowed her throat may become numb and uncomfortable. Dry the area with a piece of 2x2 gauze then apply the topical with a Q-tip.

If I was certain that it was her molar and not an abcess then my advice would be to have her chew on something cold...like a washcloth to ease the pain. But you don't want to apply cold to an abcess. It will make it worse.

Six Year Molars Pain

It could simply be an infected tooth, or something is caught between her tooth and her gums.

If she is in a great deal of pain, I would highly recommend that you do not wait until monday, and take her instead to the ER where they can at least give her some medication to dull the pain until a dentist can take a look.

The gum is probably inflamed where the new tooth is coming in. Gently massage the area with her toothbrush and try to keep it as clean as possible until Monday. Have her chew her food on the other side so no food debris can collect under the gums.

Its a ....................................molar! Relax, it is just her molar coming in, place some orajel and the pink/red area and give her some tylenol. Have her eat soft foods and try to stay away from chewing on that side. This should go away in about 2-3 days. If it does not, take her to her dentist, thay can tell you for sure what it is.

I agree with the other Doc
Please... relax
I truly believe it's her permanent molar starting to erupt
Leave it alone
The bulge is the new tooth coming to surface
It's part of the normal process
Don't need to do anything
In layman's terms...she's "teething"

It's probably an abcess. Try and get her to swill her mouth with warm salt water, this helps to get rid of infection, but if she has a fever, I would try and get her in to see a dentist before Monday.
