All of these people on here are a little confused! I am a dental hygienist. Around 5 years old (actually between 5 and 6 years of age) children get what we call their "6 year molars". She will be getting 4 of them, one on each side and top and bottom of her mouth, but they can all come in at different times. When teeth come through the gums or erupt the area is often swollen and red, and can be accompanied by pain. It is perfectly normal for teeth to hurt when coming in and for the gum tissue around it to be inflammed or swollen. Fever sometimes comes along with getting a new tooth. I would suggest giving her some tylenol and canceling the appointment with your dentist (unless she is due for a check up anyways). The dentist will not be able to do anything for her pain but suggest tylenol or soft foods. He/ she unfortunately can't make a tooth erupt any quicker!

A good chance it is her 6 year old molar coming in. As it comes up it still has some gum over it. The fever though worries me. I would go to the doctor then get to the dentist if needed on Monday

Sounds like she's teething with the swollen gums. This is very painful. Could be a wisdom coming in or a molar. Every one is different when it comes to teething. Give her some Tylenol or Motrin for pain till you take her to the dentist on Monday. She can also rinse with warm water and salt for the time being or you can rub some Anbesol on her gums.

Might be some food stuck back in there. Also could be an infection, of the gum, thus thefever. I get this from time to time. I use listertine and that often shrinks the tissue back down. Eat soft foods, etc. I can also recommend zylactin teething swabs for any pain/discomfort.

Please don't wait until Monday. If you can't find an emergency dentist, call your pediatrician. Those are identical to the symptoms of a tooth abcess that my son had. The reason it's important not to delay is that somethimes the child needs a few days of antibiotics before the dentist can treat the tooth.

It might be the 5 year molars. Try having her suck on ice or something cold to numb the pain. Tylenol for the fever. And try very soft foods so that way it doesn't hurt her to eat.

Is it possible she's getting a molar? My son is the same age and he was complaining of pain and that's what it was. A low fever and pain would accompany it.
