Contact your local humane society, and/or some rescue groups. Also, maybe put a collection box at your vets office, with Maggie's story on it. Or, call the vet that will be doing the surgery and see if they can work something out with you. Maybe even if you clean kennels on the weekends or something to pay it off.

she is very precious, and I cant tell you how wonderful I think it is that you're so involved. You're doing the right thing, and I cant thank you enough for loving your pet the way you do

(I work for a Humane Society and deal with a lot of cruelty, so its such a relief to hear from someone like you)

You should look into the ASPCA, they have a pet insurance thing now, I put the link below. (The first one) Theres an 'ask the expert vet' section (link 2) and they also have general pet care tips on the main page (link 3)

I had a dog that was blind in one eye, but she eventually regained most of her vision (she was hit by a car, thats what caused it, and then we took her in) so I know how heart breaking it can be. But you're so sweet to love her and not think of her as "damaged" you would be suprised how many ppl would pawn her off because of it.

In the meantime, I suggest you just find a way to make her eyes comfortable. Ask the vet if he thinks the cataracts are hurting her (and she might be rubbing her eyes against her paws or keeping her head down a lot) and see if you can get some eye drops (even from a ppl pharmacy) to help lubricate them and make them feel better.

Good Luck!

P.S. Maggie is a great name (Mine too!)

Also.... the idea that 'Me' had about scenting things so she knows what shes running into and can learn to stay away from it is a very good idea

First of all you are very pretty by the way and second of all yes your dog is very cute to.And im afraid that unless you can pay for her surgery you wont be able to help her at all.But I can tell you if you go to your vet again and ask them if there is a medication that you can give her everyday to make her become bettewr!!And maybe they have something or you can go to petsmart and ask them the question knowing they are a pet supermarket they might have that type of medication! And if that advice isnt good enough im sry but I cant help any more than that!!But i really wish i could your dog is so cute i wouldnt want to see her ending up like my dog blinder then that and riunning into evrything she passes!!

well like you said she is great....i can tell you i have worked at a boarding kennel since 2000 and i have seen/known many ..dozens of blind dogs young and old and the main thing is to try not to change her surroundings too much...so she learns where things are (and she WILL) and will not run into things so much...give her time she will live a very normal life thankfully they do not dwell on things the way humans can..(one of the things that make animals soo great)and like you already said you will always LOVE her no matter what..you will see she will teach you things on how life is ok even when it is not perfect(which it never is ever) well i doubt there is an org. out there to help... there are too many animals that need there LIVES saved.. that to spend money on sugery to just save the sight is not as important...anybody who has ever lived some time with a blind dogs will realize the do really well =) good question and good luck!!!

Maggie is adorable~I read somewhere in order to help a dog that is blind try putting distinctive smells on the things that you don't want her to run into. U must use different odors so that she will know what she is close to. Once u have done this take her to each area letting her walk to the area so that she can sniff and tell that the wall or doorway is there.Good Luck:)

Talk to the humane society and see if they can refer you to a surgeon at a discounted rate. Sometimes they can pull some strings. Also, some vets might do the surgery and take it on a payment plan.

CALL YOUR LOCAL VET AND SEE IF THEY NOW WHO CAN HELP. IF NOT SEARCH THE INTERNET ANY KIND OF INFO YOU CAN GET OR EVEN BETTER GO TO GREG BIFFLE'S WEB SITE OR ANY OTHER NASCAR DRIVER WHO CARE FOR DOGS MAY BE THEY CAN HELP.
I THINK RYAN NEWMAN'S WIFE HELPS OUT WITH STUFF LIKE THAT. GOOD LUCK WITH MAGGIE HOPE SHE LIVES A LONG TIME AND THE BOTH ARE VERY HAPPY TOGETHER

What do you want anyone to do???

How many times do you have to be told that THERE IS NO ORGANIZATION TO PAY FOR THE SURGERY

She will learn to navigate IF you don't move furniture or leave things on the floor. She will manage until YOU save the money

Now, go get a job, work more hours, take out a loan at a bank or borrow from friends, get a second job..........

Now how much could you have made at a 2nd part-time job in the time it took to do web pages ............

Awwww, It makes me think of my old dog Maggie, she was a Great Dane mix whom we rescued.
I think it is absoultley wonderful that you rescued her! More people need to be like YOU!
I wish I could help you, one of my four dogs she is a Boston terrier, is going blind as well. Her name is Nibbles.
Set out donation jars and pray. My friends dog had it to and they found this new medicen made in I think England. It's drops and it stops your dog from going blind though It is extremeley expensive.
Good LUCK!
