My hair is one length and between collar and shoulder length
But has no volume in it

my girlfriends mum is a hairdresser and wants to give me a body perm, she has warned me that it may turn out too curly for my liking, she has also suggested before doing the perm that she will roller set me to show how much the volume the perm will give my hair

Is she right about this as I dont want to put rollers in my hair but my girlfriend has told me that Iam just being silly and that i may need to put rollers in my hair if the perm comes out to curly

try volumising shampoo and conditioner first,

Have you Tried to blowdry it

try the perm as a final answer, but before you do let your g/friends mum set your hair to see if you like it.

however in my experience perms always come out too tight and then you will need to roller set your hair to make your hair look less curlier

IF you have a really large rod to perm your hair it will come out fine. As the perm ages the volume will decrease. The problem is that a perm re-creates your hair structure and it will feel different. Some people say it feels better than before and some say it feels drier. It would depend on what quality the perm is.

I would suggest getting a larger rod to perm your hair on rather than having to use rollers if it comes out too curly. This way you are guaranteed to have volume rather than curl. Go with the mum and pick out the rod size, I suggest 1-1 1/2 inch rods.

Getting a perm is oo severe. Instead try a volumizing shampoo and conditioner like the new line from Loreal. Also when you have styled your hair flip hair down (facing floor) and spray volumizing hairspay from the bottom all the way to the front without straightening. Then flip hair back up. You hair will look twice as full. REMEMBER: it can look very puffy on your first try so you have to practice to get it just right. I do this when my straigtened hair looks flat and it Works!

Many men want to achieve the appearance of more hair - a good styling gel looks natural (never stiff or sticky) and provides the hold to create volume. If you have fine hair and want to create volume use a styling gel after conditioning. Styling products with hold create the most meaningful volume.

Create Volume With Hair Brush

I want to create a lot of volume while drying and styling my hair.

Choose a Spornette vented air styler you feel comfortable using.

Vent brushes are vented to permit heated air to circulate through the brush. This enables hair to dry evenly and quickly with maximum control. There are 2 styles of vents...

One style is open this is the skeleton style
at the sides
One style is closed this is the styling vent style
at the sides
Most bristles are heat resistant which means you can apply heat directly onto the hair and bristle sections. However, you must use common sense and not overheat the hair! Vents should be tipped for gentleness.
To maximize volume For medium to longer hair sections...
Towel dry your hair. Apply mousse or gel by the roots of your hair. Tilt your head downward and brush hair from the roots outward in an upward direction while applying heat
from a dryer. Brush hair towards the front so it goes against the root’s growth pattern. When completely dry, use the dryers’ cold button for maximum support.

On the very top of the hair...
Brush from the front to the back against the direction of the roots' growth pattern as hair on the top or front of your scalp tends to grow forward. Apply heat as this creates a lot of lift on the crown. When dry, flip the hair back for a full volume look.

To get a slight flip or to frame your face...
Use the outer rows of your brush to gather and hold the end of a hair section. Bend the hair over the outer rows in the direction you like and use hot air to direct the flip.

I have fine, stick straight hair and a volumnizer works for me.
I used to perm but they gave me more curl than body.
