Pups can't possibly be 'finished' with all of their vaccinations at 3 months of age. If parvo vaccines are not continued until at least 4 months of age (6 months for certain breeds), that pup is very likely to still be at risk of getting parvo. The only reason to stop any sooner would be if an antibody blood titer test showed that the pup had an adequate response to the vaccine at 3 months of age to provide at least a year's worth of protection. Many don't completely respond by that age, however.

The "can't get parvo again after having it once" thing is a myth. Numerous cases have been seen where parvo-survivors who didn't receive subsequent vaccinations contracted the virus again at a later date, confirmed by antigen testing and CBC's each time. Granted, it's not EXTREMELY common, but it happens frequently enough to warrant booster vaccination after recovery from the disease to keep those antibody levels high enough for protection.

No DVM will vaccinate your puppy if he's sick. By the time you read this, you should have already taken him in for an examination and fecal test for intestinal parasites (which can mimic parvo symptoms.) Your DVM could have done a parvo test at the same time if the symptoms were suggestive. Please follow your veterinarian's advice....he/she is the only one here who has the medical knowledge and training to advise you, once he/she has seen your pup in person.

So as I understand it can take up to 10 days for a dog to show the symptoms of parvo. So with that said if your dog isn't showing any symptoms of parvo but has been exposed to the virus and you then give the vaccine to the dog who is not showing symptoms will it kill the dog? And if this is the case why then would a vet give a dog the vaccine knowing it's been exposed without first testing for parvo? I had two puppies, one was showing symptoms so took her to the vet and started the antibiotics and under skin solution. I nursed this dog back to health and about 3 days later the other pup was still not showing signs of parvo so I took him to the vet to get his shots. The vet knew about my other pup but didn't test for parvo just gave him his shots. Two days later my dog is showing symptoms of parvo and so I rushed him to the vet for the treatment given to the other dog. Within one day the pup was dead. My little girl is now well but her brother didn't survive and I feel that having been given shots but not tested for parvo contributed to him not surviving as I did everything the same as I did for my little girl.

A vet will not give any kind of vaccine to a sick dog. As someone else said, giving a dog with parvo a parvo vaccine will kill him.

I don't really understand why your dog hasn't had his parvo vaccine yet. My dog was done with all her shots, except for her rabies vaccine, at three months of age, so I'm presuming you haven't had him long.

Hopefully our dog doesn't have parvo at all.

I sure hope you have your dog at the vet. He is going to need IV antibiotics. Without it your dog will die. No vet will give a dog a parvo vaccine if he has parvo. They have to treat the illness and cure it first before giving the vaccine.

They will not get Parvo again. It is a virus and the body makes antibodies against that virus. BUT, if it might NOT have been Parvo....get the vaccine anyway. Check with the vet to make sure the dog is healthy enough.

A dog/puppy should NEVER be vaccinated for anything until it is 100% healthy.

I'm sorry to be the one to tell you, but usually when a dog catches parvo, there isn't anything you can do about it. When the vaccine is given, it usually kills him/her. I'm sorry. It's happened to me before. Well, not me, but you know what I'm sayin.
