the man shouldn't wear a garter on his arm at the wedding. the girl should wear it on her leg, then at the wedding the guy should take it off, then the girl who wins the boquet toss sits in a chair and the guy who wins the garter toss puts the garter on her leg.

Most men don't wear a garter on their arm for their wedding. But my fiance and I both are wearing a garter on our wedding day. All the men in his family have in the past. Then at the reception, it gets auctioned off, as will mine, instead of being tossed... I hadn't heard of it either until I moved to the midwest. Now it just sounds like fun....

This asker is not that far off. Way back, all of those Barber shop quartet people used to wear garter or something on their arms. Don't know why though.

I have never heard of this at all. Is it a local or ethnic custom.
Some women choose to wear a "pretend" garter on their leg, to be later removed at the reception. This practice is really going down though, because it's usually quite demeaning for the woman.

Why is he wearing a garter on his arm? Its on the brides leg, gets taken off and thrown to eligle bachelors, the next morning it ends up on some guys rearview mirror in his car.. Don't screw with it..it like law or something.
