I took him to the vet because he kept digging in his ears and the vet had 3 people hold him down to just look at his ears. We've never really cleaned them (we did when he was a kitten but as he grew he hated it and since I'm the only one he likes he tolerated me doing it for short periods of time, but now he hates it and won't let you near his ears) and the doctor said he would give me medicine but since he doesn't like people near/in his ears he didn't give it to me. Mostly because he didn't want me to get hurt. What should I do for him?

Well, like I said the vet had to have 3 people (himself included) to hold down my cat just to check his ears out. Bear *that's his name* is old 14, but believe me I won't be going back to that vet!

The vet should have never let him leave with an infection and no medications! That's negligence and unacceptable to me. I have 4 cats. One is the size of a poodle, a big baby who lets me do anything to him. The little one that is 5 pounds, persian fluffy innocent looking little girl is vicious when you try to do anything to her and so hard to hold!
You gotta get medicine and get it in him, whether by pill or ear drops. If it's definitely a yeast infection, you could buy One brand cat food and feed it to him to help prevent the yeast from growing, it has yogurt in it.
I would suggest a soft carrier with a zipper open top, you can put him in it, unzip the top so just his head is out and then have someone hold his head while you do his ears. Even if you don't clean them out, get the medication in the ears.
With his age, sedation isn't good, 12 and older can be risky. It can be expensive to have him stay over at the vets for the duration of medications too.
I'd try the carrier, get the One food, and also try a cloth or towel over his body too. How is he with pills? Probably just as bad, they have a pill popper thing that looks like a shot giver, I have that for if silky needs a pill at some point.

It doesn't surprise me that it took three people to control the cat. You'd be amazed at how strong cats can be--and how belligerent they can get when they don't want to be restrained. Vets try not to sedate if possible, esp. for an older animal. However, I agree that sedation is the best alternative for Bear. Once he is asleep, the ears can be cleaned properly and medicine can be applied. The ear medicine must be given for a period of time, though, so you should be given some to take home.
If you have at least one person to help you can do it. My suggestion is to get a towel and wrap him up so all four legs are covered. Then have your helper hold him tightly so he can't get away. Your job will be to get that medicine in those ears. If he bites, see if the vet will loan/give/sell you a cat muzzle. It covers their mouth and eyes and helps keep them calm and you from getting bitten. Afterwards, give him some super yummy treat that he never usually gets. The biggest problem is catching him the next time--usually I have to bribe with food/treats.
Best of luck to you--I work with dogs and cats every day and I know how hard this can be. But it must be treated because it won't get better on its own. And, it can be very itchy and painful and can lead to further problems if not treated.

Otomax cures yeasty ears in dogs I believe it can be used on cats. Generally flushing it just knocks the gunk deeper in to the ear. My best suggestion is to get a helper and wrap him in a thick towel with only his head out and apply a few drops quickly. The stuff works great but will take about ten days to keep the infection from coming back. Hold the towel very snug around his neck (without chocking him) or he'll be able to get his legs out and it's downhill from there. Good luck

I give my animals vitamin supplements instead of medication I would suggest for your cat a product called Optiflora its a 2 part system and both the powder and capsules must be used in order to work for your cats yeast infection

See another vet. Have them SEDATE the cat and FLUSH the ear. That will get all the crap out. Then you can try just giving an oral medication, or maybe the cat will let you put medication in, since it will hurt less.
Good luck!!! I hate cleaning my cats ears as much as they hate me doing it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get another vet because it is not going to clear up on its own. It needs to be medicated.
