and starting to split. Anybody know of any hair secrets that can help strengthen and nourish my ends? I use different kinds of products but maybe someone knows of a home remedy that works well? Either that or a product that you know works really well also. I do get trims every 2-4 months but my ends still dry out.
Thanks! :)

the only "remedy" is to keep the ends of your hair trimmed. Your hair will grow about and inch every 3 months, so trim 1/2 inch every 4 months. Trust me, you will have long, luscious beautiful healthy hair if you do this...there is NO MAGIC solution to split ends other than trimming. Hair is dead and can't be rejuvenated by any product at all..... it's all smoke and mirrors and money in the bank for the product makers.

ps - brush your hair slower and gently, don't yank on it... when you wash it, start to brush from the 1/2 length down til knots are gone, then continue brushing with increased length of brush strokes until you get to the top of your head. you will experience less split ends that way as well.j

addition: ok you say you trim your hair - that's great - then the only remedy is to prevent split ends by using a good conditioner and brushing your hair gently. There is no product anywhere that will reduce or repair split ends.
good luck

I suggest trimming hair every 6 weeks to prevent the split ends but you can also take care not to split them in the first place, don't brush hair when it's wet, because that's when it is at its most vulnerable, cut down on hair dryers, straightening irons, crimpers, curling irons and hot curlers, invest in a natural-bristle brush that won't pull on hair and ultimately break it off, thereby causing a possible split end, wear a hat to minimize sun damage, use a shampoo that lists sunscreen as a major ingredient, always condition after shampooing, and use a deep conditioner once a month or maybe once every 2 weeks.

just get a trim. it won't kill you, and the less you have to keep putting things into ur hair to get it to stop being dry, the less stress ur scalp will be under. remember that a normal trim is really good for ur hair. it looks better too. also, when u brush ur hair, it probably pulls on the dry ends and pulls it out, right? that slows the growth. also, a trim looks so nice. remember to use gentle products when u do use them. i reccomend garnier fructisse sleek and shine. it has extra oils to make ur hair stronger and smoother. that means that ur ends will stay smooth for longer after and if u get a small trim. it's not like they'd be taking four inches or anything. maybe just an inch or less. so i would seriously consider this.

i hope i helped!

This has been a question that has plagued my mind for years and is definetely a sensitive one for a person of color. I am simply perplexed by the idea that long hair is the standard of beauty. As a person who will probably never grow my hair longer than my shoulders as most african american women, it seems that we will never be found attractive based upon this question. Not only is this superficial but it is bewildering. I am not sure how to really answer your question but I definetely want to open some eyes. Short hair can be beautiful and just as lovely as long hair and i am living proof and so are many others. So for all of you looking for that long haired girl, u might be missing out on ur soul mate with the "short bob" lol.

your hair strands are like a rope once it starts to break and fray it will contuine until you mend the ends meaning you need to get a trim about ever 4 to 6 weeks to keep them healthy. Also when your hair is wet use a wide tooth comb to comb not a brush because that will break your hair off (hair is in a weaker state when its wet) use a mosturising shampoo and conditioner.and it is best to use a salon product verses a store product because a store product could have been on the shelf too long where salon products are not stored in salons that long. also salon products don't have wax.

You need to have the split ends cut off; regular trimming of your ends will allow for newer and healthier growth.

Try Rice Proteins Serum by Korres Natural Products. It's expensive, but works well. It's made specifically to treat split ends.
