erter? Thats what the guy at the dealership told me. He said because of the demands of gas mileage, newer cars with catalytic converters actually produce more or if not, the same amout, of CO as an older car. Is there any truth to this?

Let me answer by telling you the air pollution in Los Angeles in the 50's and 60's was SOOOOOO bad, you couldn't see more than a couple miles, and it actually hurt your lungs to take a deep breath.

Today, it is MUCH cleaner, you can see the mountains year 'round, and no more chest pains.....

The dealer guy is, well, lets say misinformed.

I don't think so. I think the standards for older cars are less then for newer cars. for example, on an older car, the standard might be 800 parts per million (PPM) for CO, while on a newer car the standard might be 300 parts per million (PPM) for CO.

PS ... May the forces of evil become confused at your door...

No, the sales guy like most is full of crap. I used to hate working with these types. they make things up because they know nothing. Cat. cons. help clean the exhaust and lower co levels. Keep your car maintained and you will get good fuel economy and we all breath easier.

Hopefully the guy who told you that isn't a mechanic. If he is, take your business elsewhere!

Modern CO emissions are a tiny fraction of what they were back in the pre-cat days.
