i think the best would be on your DXdiagnostic tools...
start-> run-> type(dxdiag)
there you can see hard drives that are attached on your PC and on the note box under it you will see a comment if there something wrong or if theres problem...
also you can also see the driver signing of the drivers for your harwares...
windows can detect problems but sometimes windows cannot repair problems about drivers so you need to install its driver again...

Have you used Windows?

cl Start
cl Programs
cl Accessories
cl System Tools
select Scandisk

This will search for drive errors and try to fix them.
