My wife bought some salmon on Tuesday from Wal-Mart grocery store, and I just cooked it up for dinner and it was rotten, when I opened it I was skeptical because it smelled bad, but I figured I'd cook it and try it one bite was all I needed to confirm it was bad. So my question is should I just throw it out and not worry about it or try and return it for a refund? It was $10.54 not a lot but it just makes me mad they would sale bad fish.

call the manager to see what he/she has to say about it -- even if you dont get your money back you could prevent others from becoming very sick!!!

Go and get your money back. You would be surprised at all of the $1 and $2 food items that people take back for a refund. People will return food that went bad because they left it in a hot car. I even saw someone return hamburger meat that was three months old. So I would definitely return the salmon if I were you. BTW, I used to work in a supermarket meat department, and I saw a lot of cooked meat get returned because it was bad. If the fish is bad, it is your right as a consumer to at least try to return it. Besides, Wally World will take back almost anything.

Well because you cooked it, you won't get a refund. However, you should have been able to tell if the fish was good, BEFORE cooking it.

Basically, you should just throw it out and contact walmart corporate headquarters and let them know what happened. They are really good about responding within 72hrs after receiving your complaint.

For future reference, just for fun you should visit a fish monger and find out how to tell good fish from bad fish. Like I said, when shopping for fresh fish, usually the color and smell is a good indicator on whether or not the fish is edible.

She should have frozen the fish, instead of letting it sit for three days in the refrigerator. You have to eat fresh salmon (or any fish) right away or within two days. Otherwise, it will go bad like yours did if it's not frozen.

I doubt she'll be able to get her money back because the fish has been used. She can try complaining about it to the manager, be sure to bring the rotten fish or the label, but I don't know if anything will be done.

LOVE TO TALK: Don't spread rumors about something that is not true. Walmart DOES sell fresh food. Ours does.

Take back the label with your receipt and explain to them that you wanted to spare yourself as well as them the disgust of having to handle a 1 week old piece of rotten fish. Tell them that you respectively would like a refund and that if they really want the fish you can go home and get it. And for goodness sake, WalMart is good for a lot of items but certainly not fish.

Bring it back. If they have a bad batch of salmon, they'll want to know so they can contact their supplier, too. My experience with returning things to Wal Mart has been excellent, so I doubt you'll get any hassle as long as you bring the fish and whatever wrappings you have to the store.

We had a similar experience with milk, we just took it back (no reciept needed if you have the original packaging) and they exchanged it for us. Milk is something you kinda need for a variety of things, but you don't have to havwe salmon. So if you didn't want to exchange it for the same thing, you could try another type of fish or another brand. Again, a refund is still an option of course.

I would return the fish. Wal Mart needs to know it is selling bad fish. You do this to protect others from buying bad fish and to prevent some one from getting sick. Some people like me are not to good at picking up odors and have problems with their taste buds.

First I'd like to say . . .

why why why did she buy something like fish at wal-mart???

Wal-mart receives items to sell that have been sold to them by better grocery stores that refuse to stock items after a certain date.

Example: Darigold milk in a carton. I can buy a carton at Safeway and the expiration date would be 2 months out. I can buy the same kind of milk at a Wal-mart/Winco type store and it would only be good for one week.

See my point? The better stores sell their items to the "less than desired" stores to get money back. The walmarts of the world turn around and sell the items prior to expiration, but sometimes the products are still gross.

Take it back just to prove a point to wal-mart.

Hey- Tara6 it is for a fact true in the case of the milk(my example)

I would go back and at least try and get a refund if the meat was bad unless ofcourse they have a policy about perishable foods if once baught no return.... It wouldn't hurt to try the return though. Hope you still have the receipt though. Good luck.
