It depends on the country in which your spouse is coming from. I know when I petitioned my fiance, now my husband from the Philippines, the ball was in his court after the petition was approved. He received paperwork from the embassy in Manila, and had to fill it out. He had to get a medical, and had to do his interview. Several things. There are many great web sights out there that help you understand the immigration process.

Congratulations! You've passed the hardest part of getting your wife here. You will receive instructions on what to do next. The link below provides more insight to the process and forms that you can learn about that you and your wife will have to complete. I must caution you that it takes a long time, depending on the country your wife is in. My husband and I are on the last two legs of the journey and we are ecstatic! Please keep in mind that patience is key because it is a lengthy process. Always keep copies of everything, especially what you fill out and send back to the processing centers. Read as much information as you can (from the government site) and be careful of anyone offering their services as an immigration specialist - many are out just to get money. Good luck.

Congrats! This is where the fun now begins :-)

From here, the application will now be forwarded to the NVC (National Visa Center) and from there it will be sent to your spouses consulate in her country.

Her consulate will then send her a letter for an appointment date for a visa interview. The timeframe for this appointment can be anywhere from 1-3 months, depending on what country she is from (Every country is different).

It will have instructions on what she will need to do (medical exam, documents needed such as birth cert, any previous marriage/divorce certs). She will also be required to bring proof that the relationship is genuine (pictures, cards, letters, phone bills - believe me the more of this you have the better)

If everything is in order, she should be granted her visa. This depends on a lot of factors such as what type of visa (K1 or K3), the country she's coming from. So right now you should both be gathering all the information you can that will prove your relationship is genuine. Good luck!

They will send you paperwork or you can check the website to know if you will have a meeting with the judge, when and where and when she can come.
