Sometimes I will use a mixture of egg and milk to soak in first before breading with flour or cornmeal. I have tried using corn flake crumbs instead of flour on chicken or baked pork chops but I didnt care for it. Ended up to crunchy or maybe I just didnt do it right :)

Simply using flour isn't enough because your not going to get much of a coating. There are quite a few options. Look for a beer batter mix or recipe. Panko is also good. If you're just trying to throw something together, you'll need to dip the veg in something wet before the flour, or into a wet batter before frying. Without added moisuture, your vegs will soak up a lot of oil and have really little or no crust. Yuck.

I think you have to actually make a batter...flour won't just stick to the food. You could try using an egg wash first, then dip the item in flour. Or you can mix beer and flour. Try this:

1 (12 ounce) can light beer
1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon paprika

Very yummy.

You need to dip them into something like egg to make the flou stick. You can also crush up very fine potatoe chips and we use beer to dip them in before we fry. you can mix the corn meal, flour or crushed chips together with the beer/or egg and the the coating is thicker. also wait till they sorta dry alittle or your get these little piece of batter in your oil.

Yes, but it's best to season the flour with what seasonings you
like.

I use garlic, salt, pepper, Cayenne, and Emeril's seasonings sometimes.

It really makes a difference in the flavor of your food.

good luck

You could just saute them up together in a little butter or olive oil, that's what I do, it's healthier than all that fat in deep frying, and they taste yummy.
