For an eigth grade science project, we have to make a vehicle (Most likely car-like), and it has to be able to travel on its own.

It must be made from scratch.
No electricity--at all.
Must move on it's own. (No pushing, ramps, etc.)

I'm looking for any ideas on how to make it move? And please be specific. (Like how to use rubber bands to make it move, or maybe springs, fire, balloons, etc.)

The basic idea is to make the car with Newton's laws in mind. (Every action has an equal reaction, objects in motion stay in motion...)

Oh, and it has to be able to travel at least 1.5 meters, and stay within a course that's 1 meter wide.

Simple enough. A platform, four wheels, a balloon, and a plastic soda bottle. Cut the bottle in half and nail it to the platform, along with the 4 wheels. Blow up the balloon and put it in the 1/2 soda bottle. Release. You may need to tape the back of the bottle to trap the balloon and keep it from flying away.

ok I did something similar for physics class a few years ago. mine was solar powered and made from cardboard for the wheels i used juice caps i dont think u want it to be too thick/ heavy but u can try using something thicker for the body. go to your physics dept. and ask them for a piece of that solar paper thing. i dont remember what its called. hopefully u will have a sunny day to test it. goodluck!!!

Try your question or you might try some magnetics.
