These are round squash with flattened ends, the largest being about 14" in diameter. They are dark green with a few pale white stripes running vertically down the sides. I cut one open, and it has a bright orange flesh. These were given to me by a friend who didn't mention what they were on his note. Whatever could they be? Any ideas would be appreciated! I can always look up pics on the net if I have a few names of squashes to google. Thanks!

HHHmmm, I can see it, but can't put the ol digit on it. Orange flesh squash can be Butternut or Spaghetti and there's one more but I'm drawing a blank, maybe some else will come up with it. Good Luck, sounds like you're going to be eating alot of squash.
Almost hit the submit button, Acorn squash was what i was missing along with Orangetti

Could it be carnival?

Carnival Squash - Cream colored with orange spots or pale green with dark green spots in vertical stripes - coloration sometimes divided part and part - golden flesh. Carnival Squash have hard, thick skins and only the flesh is eaten.

The delicious yellow meat is reminiscent of sweet potatoes and butternut squash and can be baked or steamed then combined with butter and fresh herbs.

You have a Butternut Squash. One of the best kind. Cut it up into pieces like you would any squash and steam it till tender. Mash and add butter and salt & pepper. Delicious. Goes great with turkey or roast chicken with mashed potatoes. Enjoy.
