I'm moving to a very small apartment so I'm looking for some simple, cheap space savings ideas you might have. I can't do anything like painting or knocking down walls.

Get rid of anything you don't need before you try to organize it. Your space is at a premium so only keep premium things. You absolutely love it and can't live without it. THen once you've pared things down to a manageable size, you must have a place for everything and everything in it's place. Truly a space for everything. If you haven't moved yet you can draw it up on paper and then think about using every inch of space as "double duty" Don't just have a end table but an end table w/ storage in it. Think about your holiday stuff and where you will keep everything you own. You may want to actually make an inventory of everything you own. If it's not worth writing on the list it's not worth organizing.

Curtains across a wall is a great idea but can cost a lot of money. I put up cafe rods for curtains but hung flat sheets. They already have an area to put the rod through (top of the sheet) and they were really cheap. To separate sleeping area from living area, get a folding screen. Put ribbon on it to make a place to hold pictures, etc.

Buy shelves to help store stuff. I did that a few months ago because I simply had too many little decorations crowded in too small a space- and it all looks a whole lot better now. You might find something to your liking at Walmart, Big Lots, or maybe in a few second-hand stores. Also look in Dollar General or comparable places: You might be pleasantly surprised at what you find.

Good luck!

Use fabric curtains across an entire wall to add color and texture. They would hang from ceiling to floor. Use a punchy color like red or rust to add interest to the room.

Add color with floor rugs - they are beautiful and can be inexpensive.

Get a coffee table where the table top lifts up with the press of a lever (air pressure) to regular table height. It can perform double duty if you pull up a couple chairs for dinner.

Use screen dividers to add interest and color. You could cover one with a fabric or wallpaper you like.

Get 3 large frames from a craft store and put wallpaper in them instead of pictures. 3 across the wall in back of the couch would be very pretty. Important to have an odd number. It looks better.
