I LOVE GOLDEN RETRIVERS AND I THINK THEY ARE WAY MORE PRETTIER AND THEY HAVE A KINDER ATTITUDE!!!! and for those who hate goldens but luv labs.. well, just don't talk to me cause i luv goldens more than labradors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <:P

Labs are so popular because of their natures and they need groomed less often... their hair doesnt matt and they are just the people's dog lol. I love retrievers too but labs just seem to be more fun around people. i have yet to meet a lab that doesnt love attention and that isnt hyperactive and bouncy. I groom dogs for a living, so I see a lot of them. Labs rock!
I dont hate retrievers, labs just seem more fun! =D

Wow such fire!! lol I show Labradors so I love them a lot. I've been around lots of Goldens and in my opinion both they and Labs are a lot alike. I would be more interested in Goldens if they didn't have long hair. Have you ever seen the preparation to get them ready to show?! Labs you just take a damp towel, wipe them down, and your ready to go. Labs are also used a lot in many different jobs (bomb detection, guide dogs, assistance dogs, etc.) so that probably has an influence in making them more popular as well. Personally I would rather they weren't so popular because whenever a breed gets this kind of notoriety you always end up with greeders (not misspelled) breeding them into the ground for money which in turn creates problems for those of us trying to improve the breed. If you notice now Chis and other toy breeds are starting to have the same problems because of celebrities that have the breed or commercials using the particular breed. Case in point what Gentle Giant Canines said about her Lab. Labs are rambunctious but they shouldn't be to the point of being a nuisance. When you get a dog from a poor quality greeder, you end up with problems like theirs. A poor job of raising the baby will cause problems as well as a person who simply can't handle a rambunctious puppy but most often it's poor bloodlines that lead to these kinds of problems.
Edit: So nobody realizes that Labs are retrievers just like Goldens? And that there's no such thing as a "golden Lab". They are called Yellow Labs, not golden Labs.

Friendly Hello, I think both breeds are nice but I am with you on the Goldens. We had a Chocolate lab and she was nothing but intense. We spent hundereds of dollars at the kennel club and a private trainer and finally we ending up placing her. My friend raises Goldens. She has a litter of AKC puppies for sale here in Michigan now. Her name is Grace. She sells the puppies for $300.00 each and shipping an additonal $300.00. When I did her photos on the pups. The parent dogs were so extremely kind for a sporting dog. They are all labs Golden Ladrador Retrivers, Blakc Ladrador Retrivers, their are also english ones too sorry to say they are the same thing. Labs (retrevers) makegreat pets they are loyal to their owners and they have a lot of energy so look in to if before you get one.

I'VE HAD A GOLDEN, AND NOW HAVE A CHOC. LAB. THE GOLDEN WAS VERY SICK, HE HAD VERY VIOLENT SEIZURES AND HAD TO BE PUT DOWN, BUT BEFORE HE GOT SICK, WAS A SWEET HEART
THE CHOC. LAB, WELL SHE'S JUST THE LAZIEST THING I'VE EVER SEEN, EXCEPT AT THE LAKE, SHE LOVES THE WATER.
BUT I TELL YA, SHE IS THE SWEETEST DARN THING
GOD LOVE HER

Labs are ok if you want a good family dog that isn't too driven. If you want a serious retriever you should be looking at Chesapeakes.

i have a golden retriever which is turnin into a monster cuz of my new dog i got called hershey (hes a chocolate lab) hes cute but can get annoying ya but i agree retrievers r WAY BETTER!

yeah that is true I guess. I think retrievers are pretty, but its not my favorite dog. Sorry but I personally like cockier spaniels they are so adorable and sweet! I also like my dog whom is a three mixed mutt. She's a pug/Pomeranian/shiatsu. Way cute!
