This a question that is best for a nurse. I have never heard of this drug being addictive, but for a recovering drug addict - all drugs used need to be passed by a doctor or a nurse.
Was the person you are talking about taking Phen-fen? Phentermine (Ionamine) is used for the short-term treatment of obesity.
If this person has an eating disorder, he or she needs to see a doctor.
Since the withdrawal of fen/phen from the market, "herbal fen/phen" has been proposed as an alternative in treating obesity. But the Food and Drug Administration has issued a warning that "herbal fen/phen" has not been shown to be a safe and effective treatment for obesity and may contain ingredients that have been associated with injuries.
The main ingredients in most herbal fen/phen products are ephedrine and St. John's wort. Ephedrine acts like amphetamines in stimulating the central nervous system and the heart. Ephedrine promotes weight loss in part by an increase the body's temperature, and when this happens, the body burns more calories. Ephedrine use has been associated with high blood pressure, heart rhythm irregularities, strokes, insomnia, seizures tremors, and nervousness. There have been reports of deaths in young individuals taking ephedrine. St. John's wort has been used in Europe to treat mild depression, but not obesity. The action, effectiveness, and side effects of St. John's wort either alone or in combination with other agents have not been adequately studied.

This drug sounds scary.
Please read:
What is the most important information I should know about phentermine?
Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. Phentermine may cause dizziness, blurred vision, or restlessness, and it may hide the symptoms of extreme tiredness. If you experience these effects, avoid hazardous activities.
Phentermine is habit forming. You can become physically and psychologically dependent on this medication, and withdrawal effects may occur if you stop taking it suddenly after several weeks of continuous use. Talk to your doctor about stopping this medication gradually.
Do not crush, chew or open any "once-daily" phentermine tablets or capsules. Swallow them whole.

I lost 112 pounds by losing it slowly. I was happy at losing 1-5 pounds amonth. It took me 1.5 years to lose it but it is gone. I exercised daily so that I would not have the flabby skin. I started out only being able to walk 7 minutes and gave up that day. I went back out the next day and walked 15 minutes. I can now jog and love to jog 3-5 days per week up to 1 hour. You can do this !

Hi spaukus,
I would think that's not a good idea but if he/she is having withdrawls probably better than nothing besides it's herbal so not against the law. You could always call any treatment center or hospital & explain that you have a friend that wants to use herbal phentermine & could you get some advice saying your friend is addict. That way you could inform your friend. Have a good day! :0)

sounds like the donkey fell back into the ditch. Don't waste time trying to figure out how, but instead see if he'll let you help him out of the ditch.

Oh, didn't you know, if it doesn't come from a pharmacy, but instead comes from a health-food store, it is totally good for you!
That was sarcasm.
