There is only ONE rule to this game: You are not allowed to answer with "Because it says it is" or "Because it is the word of God" or "Because God said so". In other words, please do not use anything the Bible states about its own inerrancy as your argument. Anything beyond arguments the Bible makes for its own truth is fair game.

Go!

Princess: I am saying the exact opposite. Prove the Bible without the Bible (or rather, its arguments for its own truth).

Actually, in reference to my last edit: I am NOT looking for proof. Just reasons for belief in its truth.

For all Christians answering: For any of you who are interested in converting atheists, I have simply shown you what our playing rules are and why many of us this the Bible is not true. If you are interested in witnessing to atheists, this may be a good thing to keep in mind.

I BELIEVE it is true because everyone needs something to believe in and I love to think that there is someone always watching over me. This may not be true but it is something to believe in, just like Santa Claus when we were younger.

While I'm not a Christian today, I was raised in that faith (once even a junior assistant pastor). Before I comment on the Bible, I should clarify issues a bit.

The Bible contains both the Old and New Testaments, with the Old coming from Judaism as a reference to events leading up to the New. The only parts of significance to Christians in the Old are those words believed to come from God himself, those things believed to be the acts of God, the loose history it contains, and those things reemphasized in the New. However, much of the actual beliefs in the Old (such as greed, child sacrifice, ordained violence, and so on) were dismissed in the New.

The New Testament contains the teachings of Jesus Christ and is therefore the foundation for Christianity. And when reading the teachings of Jesus Christ in that New Testament (with much of that focused on love, peace, hope, self-sacrifice, charity, and so on), with the promise of an eventual reward for often thankless acts in this world, one certainly wants to believe, or at least hope, that contains some truths.

I'll leave it at that.

Read barbara theirings books on the dead sea scrolls more truths about the validity of the bible or not. Some of the dead sea scrolls were books that did not pass the litmus test when compared to the motive of the editing church. Much is speculation, recollection and manipulation.
Is the American constitution or the canadian charter of rights truth? Is democratic consensus manipulated?
I was born a christian by circumstance. Jesus was a jewish rabbi and the stories in at least the new testament were written decades after jesus died. The bible is the churches policy and proceedures and each manifestation of church has a differnent bible and on and on. Truth like perfection does not exist beyond what you are conditioned to believe and believe me when I say that our conditioning is the result of the circumstance we are indoctrinated toward, without examining overall effect and result there is no truth only speculation.

The interpretation that you have of the bible is wrong and it is the same for many people. The bible is not a book of truths but only man's understanding of his mortality and his hope for immortality. During the past millenia through translations, Bibles have their own inherent errors but oral history passed through generations have also distorted fact, and the bible and its stories were old before they were ever written. The bible, church customs and stories are an amalgamation of many polytheistic cults and Christmas does not represent the birth of Christ but of Adonis and the gold, frankincense and myrrh were gifts to Krishna( fitting trubutes for him but a bit strange for the Jews, and both frankincense and myrrh were used to cover the smell of corpses) Mityra, one of the pagan deities died and was resurrected and left his cave-tomb just as Christ did. You are asking for fact when none can exist, the bible represents only one idea, the acceptance as God as being the creator. There is no proof of God, no proof that you will go to heaven or hell, no proof of Satan but we do know from many historical references that Christ, Buddha and Mohammed did live, but unlike Christ, Buddha (Siddharta Gautama) and Mohammed never claimed a father/son relationship with God which is attributed by Christians to Christ. Your question serves to show that you want others to convince you of the truth in religion and want to know the sincerity of your beliefs. No one can do that for you. If you believe, well and good, but religious issues should not matter to you. They are personal and are best kept within the heart of a personal, not worn like a badge. Let people believe as they choose. I am not Christian, I am Buddhist and if the church provides comfort or hope, then let it do so.

I personally beleive the bible speaks the truth cause if you follow it's contents you will be happy! And if everyone followed it's laws EVERYONE will be truely happy! The bible teaches you how to get along with everyone, how to find true happiness, how to be peaceful ect.

Galations 5:22-23 "22 On the other hand, the fruitage of the spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, 23 mildness, self-control. Against such things there is no law"

All you have to do is just give it a fair, clean chance. And you will be happy. Too bad most don't believe in the bible and try to find happiness there own way...and they don't find it.....

Fulfilled prophecy from Daniel the march of the world powers.
The hygeine laws in Deuteronomy and Leviticus.
He sits above the circle of the earth? How did they no that?
In Genesis the sequence of events, from aligning the planets just right to the size of the moon. This earth was 1 followed by trillions of zero's smaller or larger it wouldn't work. there would be no life on this planet. If the moon was smaller or larger.
If we were anywhere else in the milky way but this spot.
When we got through reading the book about science I was convinced there was a higher power had nothing to do with the bible. But then we have Daniel and the march of world powers.
It even told the name of the man who would over throw Babylon.
Explaining how he would do it.

This question is the reason why I quit attending church and "practicing" an organized religion. I consider myself Christian, and I base this on the fact that I believe in God. But can I say without a doubt that I believe everything in the bible to be a true and accurate account of the past or even of what God intended it to be?............No I cannot

I think the Bible is true because it contains universal truths such as Love is patient, love is kind, etc. It talks about the fruits of the spirit: joy, peace, patience, etc. Anyone who is saved understands that these are true. When you allow the Holy Spirit to abide in you, you gain the fruits. It speaks of marriage and respect. Having a failed marriage I understand it was from a lack of respect. Besides all the proof that the histrorians cite.

I believe the Bible is truth because the principles stated in have worked for me and given me a sense of peace and direction that hasn't come from anything else written or spoken. What other book or writing has endured through the ages and is as revelant as when it was written by man but inspired by God? It is my guidebook in any given circumstance or setting. My future in eternity is clearly stated in the Bible. Heaven for a home in the presence of
God and Jesus His Son as my Savior.

I don't believe that it is true because everything that it says doesn't seem like it would happen in real life. It just seems like a fictional thing. And then on top of that we have no ACTUAL proof that any of the events of things ACTUALLY happened or took place.
