Ten is a number denoting fullness, entirety, the aggregate, the sum of all that exists of something. It may be noted also that, where the numbers seven and ten are used together, the seven represents that which is higher or superior and ten represents something of a subordinate nature.
The Ten Plagues poured upon Egypt fully expressed God’s judgments upon Egypt—all that were needed to humiliate fully the false gods of Egypt and to break the hold of Egypt upon God’s people Israel. The “Ten Words” formed the basic laws of the Law covenant, the approximately 600 other laws merely enlarging on these, elucidating them, and explaining their application. (Exodus 20:3-17; 34:28) Jesus used the number ten in several of his illustrations to denote entirety or the full number of something.—Matthew 25:1; Luke 15:8; 19:13, 16, 17.
So the ten commandments were brief, comprehensive and forecful.. .and there were other laws and principles based on them.

if you would read your bible you would know that Jesus said in john 15:12 this is my commandment that you love one another as i have loved you verse 17 these i command you that you love one another verse 18 if the world hates you know that it hated me before it hated you Jesus makes this 11th commandment clear that it coexists with the 10 commandments because if you love god you would have no other gods if you loved god then you wouldn't take his name in vain if you loved your parents you would honor them if you loved your wife you wouldn't commit adultery if you loved your neighbor you wouldn't steal are bear false witness and covet their property and so on if you love your neighbor you would not kill 1peter4:8 and above all thing (say all thing out loud) have fervent (fired with intense feeling)love for one another for love will cover a multitude of sins you see it covers everthing yes even that?

There are 618 commandments (laws) in the Jewish religion. The 10 are the basic ones used. And, ours are different than the Christians'. Our first one is, ''I am the Lord your G-d who has brought you out of the land of Egypt''. The second is, '' Thou shall have no other G-d------''.

The ten commandments were used to get the people of moses back under control. They were wild and lawless they would listen to no one including moses, but when he returned from the mountain claiming the commandments came from god and if they did not listen they would all go to hell, it's one way to get someones attention. What do you think?

They are the main ones I would say...I believe in more than just the Big 10. I believe in the Word of Wisdom, that is a modern day revelation from the Lord.

There was actually 613 commandments. Christians only needed the 10 in order to validate their religion. You can check them out here:

Actually, when Jesus came he said to love God and your neighbor as yourself, in essence making those two the most important. I think that if people can do this, that would encompass most of the others.
