$650 for a MUTT!!!!
Who saw you coming???!!!!!
You do realize that you could buy a suberbly bred Maltese or poodle for less than that??
Even if both the parents won at Westminster, that litter will be 1/2 - 3/4s pet puppies who have some tiny thing like nose 1/8th inch too long for the show ring. And that sire and dam would have been put through every possible examination for hereditary medical problems and the results certified by the OFA and CERF - national organizations.
Do you think that slob did that?? Or that she just took what ever dogs she could get her hands on? Most likely they or their parents came from puppy mills as serious reputable responsible breeders require that all pet quality puppies be spayed and neutered, and any show prospect puppy that does not fulfill its potential also be spayed/neutered AND they retain co-ownership of the show puppies with shared control over their breedings?? The only source for her dogs that she breed was , at some point, from puppy mills or equal irresponsible backyard breeders.
I think you should RUN - NOT WALK - AWAY!!!
If the house is that disgusting, call the Health Department and call the Animal Control - it is abuse and neglect if the living conditions are that foul.
DO NO DO IT!!!!
Do you really think that someone breeding MUTTS and living in a pigsty wouldn't spend that money faster than you could blink and that proposed "agreement" wouldn't be worth anything except toilet paper. You would never collect from someone like that.
If you really want a Maltese or (I'm assuming a toy or standard) poodle, go to these websites and find a reputable breeder or, on the same site, adopt from the breed rescues for those breeds. The clubs' breed resuces are, in fact, inundated with these kind of half-breed mixes of poor quality parents produce by these unscrupulous backyard breeders out to make a buck.)

I wouldn't pay $650 for a mix breed. Nor would I pay $650 to buy a mix breed from an un-professional breeder and someone who doesn't care enough to clean up their house.
Chances are, the pup could be sick.
Writing up that contract is a good idea but make sure she has read it.
Also, if she is smart enough, she will ask how long you want this guarantee for.
I would say 6 months min. but considering she is not a good breeder, let alone a reputable one, she probably won't even give you that.
If you are willing to pay $650 for a mix breed dog that lived for 8 weeks in a mess, just save your money and go buy a better, purebred pup from a reputable breeder.
They may be more expensive but they know what they're doing.
If you don't care wether it's purebred or from a reputable breeder, just go to an animal shelter and go adopt a puppy/dog.
They may not have cute little 8 week old pups but all pups grow up so that's just what they'll look like when they get older and bigger.

It's quite a difficult one. The thing I would possibly do would be to get the poor wee mutt out of that stinkhole and then report them to your health board. So basically saving the dog and making sure they are inspected. But definitely get her to sign something legally binding whereby she agrees to pay up if you find anything wrong with the dog that resulted from the conditions in the house. I would maybe get legal advice and a second opinion from a knowledgeable source. See if it is possible to get the dog checked by a vet before you think about buying it.
Good Luck.

You're going to pay 650 for a mut? Get real dude. And good luck getting the owner to sign up for a refund program. They will most likely tell you to take a hike and wait for the next sucker to come along. Go to the animal shelter and rescue a dog there.

These are the kind of people that breed these "mutts' for profit!!! I would not pay that for that dog. Maybe if it was hard for her to get rid of them, she would not do it again. I am sure she still will, but we can always hope she learns something. She probably will not sign your "contract" either. It is a puppy mill.......let it be. Chances are you will find the dog has problems..the least of which will be worms. It is probably a breeding ground for parvo also. Stay away. You cannot save them all. I am sure she will sell it to someone and it will get out of there anyway. Buying from people like this does nothing. Are you going to go and save another from the next litter in about 9-12 months??????????

good call on the agreement to have the dog checked out, but I think you're new puppy will be fine. I went with a friend a year ago to get a puppy and the place was a disaster - dogs of all ages, plus 8 puppies, EVERYWHERE. Smelly, dirty, just gross. Friend's new puppy took a few days to adjust (of course - she was taken from her mom and siblings) but she's happy and adorable and healthy now.

$650 for a mixed breed is she nuts? If I were you I would turn her into the health department, and animal control. Personally I would get a dog from the animal shelter. I would never ever pay that much for a mixed breed when you can get them much cheaper and healthier at the shelter.
