the difference is the amount of codeine in the products

tylenol 1 - 8 mg codeine
tylenol 2 - 15 mg codeine
tylenol 3 - 30 mg codeine
tylenol 4 - 60 mg codeine

all contain 300mg acetaminophen and 15 mg caffeine (except the tylenol 4) in addition to the codeine

Okay Ibuprofen helps reduce the swelling of whatever hurts!! It takes care of the problem, because the problem is that whatever hurts is swelling, so it reduces it helping alleviate the pain! Tylenol or Acetemetaphine works on the brain, not the pain itself. Instead of helping what is hurting like the Ibuprofen does it goes to the brain and stops the signals of pain being transmitted from the brain to the problem area. So you think there is no pain, when in reality it hasnt done anything to help but try to trick you. So stick with the Ibuprofen for your problem! I'm not saying that it works in every case but out of most of them it will over tylenol. Hope this helps!
