Hello all. My vet tells me that a cat, like a human, can become pregnant until it is a senior. (??) He said a cat is considered a senior until she is 9 years old. I told him I thought it was 7. Maybe time to change vets? I'm also curious if an outdoor cat will roam off to make her nest when preparing for a litter. I know how long they are pregnant for and when you are able to see the signs but I'm not really sure what the oldest age is for a cat not to be able to become pregnant? Searched the internet but came up with nothing. Thanks a bunch!

Sorry, forgot to mention....this is a neighborhood stray cat I am told. I started to feed her only after I found out for sure that she was a stray. She was pretty thin and gained a few only after I started to feed her. Got hold of her only once to take her to the vet but she got away. Wild cats I hear are like that. I was told she had been around the neighborhood for at least the past five years. I did and do want to have her spayed but the last few days, I haven't seen her. Just wanted to try and help the poor thing. A neighbor said he noticed the cat had recently grew a chubby lil' belly. Just wasn't and still not sure if she is indeed pregnant. Hope not but if I find her, I will be sure and take good care of her as I have so many others.

interesting...your vet is probably right though. Good for you, I hope you find her and keep her - that's what I did too - I adopted fed and kept a stray black cat found wandering around the hospital I work at all night I also neutered and chipped her - and have the satisfaction of knowing she will never be in that position again! I hope you get the chance to do the same for your kitty - she will think all her 9 lives have been used up and she's gone to heaven! and to answer your question - I do not think cats run away from good loving homes to have kittens unless they are frightened or trying to hid the kits! - so if you can offer a good home, go for it.

once they come into heat, it's all over. A cat can get pregnant pretty quickly (I think it's around 6 months) so you might want to get her fixed (if she isn't already pregnant). It could be worms, but if there is any possiblity that she's been outside (and with a male) then she's probably pregnant. I don't know how you feel about this, but I do know that vets will spade a cat whether or not she's pregnant, so if you really don't want the kittens, then well, they don't have to be born. I know it sounds bad, but vets do it all the time.

I'd say around 10 or so.
Here's some facts:
An average cat has 1 to 8 kittens per litter, and 2 to 3 litters per year. During her productive life, one female cat could have more than 100 kittens.
Based on a 100 kittens and an average of let's say 3 kittens per litter over time - that's about 10 years.

You should start by not wanting to get pregnant, just have sex everyday or every other day and don't think about getting pregnant, just have fun with your partner. Get more useful information and guides to get pregnant here https://tr.im/IvESk
after sex-put a pillow under your butt or prop your feet up on the wall so your pelvis is tilted
eat healthy
back off caffiene
workout, even if its just a 20 minute walk a day, be active.

It's nice that you would pay for a stray cat to get spayed. If she is pregnant, I would abort the kittens inside her because if she is a stray, she could have any disease and it will be very difficult to get rid of them or sell them.
If you want to help a cat who needs a home, go to an animal rescue shelter, they have a lot of beautiful cats that need a home.

With SO many kittens and cats available at humane leagues and shelters all around the world, why would you want your cat to become pregnant ? Why don't you just go get another cat for a nominal fee at a shelter or something ?!!!!

It is sad to think a cat would be allowed to become pregnant at 7...or 9 for that matter.
