would it be O.K. for restaurants to put spitoons in the corners for the benefit of tobacco chewers?

I was only joking, and just looking to see who on YA is grouchy this evening. (Caught a couple of you, didn't I) BTW, I used to smoke, and really didn't mind the smoke in restaurants. I am not a fanatic about banning smoking.

I hope you are joking. This is banned by the health departments as sputum is responsible for carrying all kinds of diseases. How do you think tuberculosis is spread? And this disease is on the incline in the U.S.

I'm actually glad they banned smoking in restaurants and other public buildings. I lived with 19 years of second hand smoke. It's like a breath of fresh air. Where I live this is what's called a "dry" county. Alcohol cannot even be sold here. The closest liquor store for beer drinkers is approx an hour away, yet people make the trip.

Good one! You have no idea how much chew I've had to wash off plates. And I'd much rather be around a little smoke than listen to someone hawk a loogie and spit while I'm trying to eat.
Yes, I smoke, but only outside about 20' from a restaurant or bar.

That is almost equally as nasty as trying to eat in a smoke filled restaurant. Could you imagine how many patrons of said establishment would loose their meal - OR having the job of cleaning the spittoons at the end of the day - UGHHH.

Don't see why not. I mean, I think it's gross, and maybe they could create a little room for it instead of having it out in the open area where people are eating (cause you're not chewing while you're eating, I assume!). But it's not like your chew should encroach into my personal space the way smoke does. (P.S. I'm not hating on the smokers, not one currently but was for many years.)

I guess. With some restaurants, though, it begs the question; " Hey, where ya goin' with that spittoon? That's the kitchen. Dumpster's out back! "

That would encourage rude and improper behavior for a social setting such as a restaurant.

Get over it!
At least there is no more smoking in resturants! YOU GOT YOUR WAY! Now shut up about it!
